Written piece Reflection
One of the main goals of ENGL 150 was to help the students improve writing
skills. Many opportunities were given to write essay and improve essay-writing skills. It
involved doing research on topic and for all the assignments, Students had freedom to
choose topics for their essay.
For assignment 3,we had to write an essay about one of the organizations that are
part of Iowa State University. It was going to be essay to help us and others know about
the organization on the campus. It was a semi-group activity where group four students
had to choose the same topic to write a essay individually and then a presentation in a
group.
Topic we choose was Reiman Gardens. Reiman Gardens is at the entrance of Iowa
State University. My audience was the students of Iowa State University. Even though I
knew my audience I failed to clarify it in the essay. Knowing the audience helps a lot as it
helps writer to make more concise and focused points. It also helps decide what contents
is needed to be included in the essay.
There were mistakes such as suddenly using third person in the paragraph. This
makes reader-confused .I tried to fix those by using I and re-writing the sentence to
make it in the first person. Also there were not enough details for some paragraphs,
whereas some had more detail than needed. I fixed that by re-writing the beginning of

paragraphs and also by adding example. There was also repetition of information, which I
fixed by combining sentences and removing unnecessary information.
There was a lot of room for improvement and I tried to use my graded
assignment to improve the mistakes made in assignment. Mistakes such as not including
the citation were also common in my other assignment and I tried to work on that too.
