An uncontrolled rectifier is installed for the power supply of the field. The rated DC current range extends from 35 A to 500 A. Operation with a strongly fluctuating load is easily possible on changing the component complement, e.g. for power supply of the motor fields or electromagnets (see Section 4.9). Construction Control electronics together with the complete power section are installed in a common U- shaped housing (compact design). The housings for all equipment sizes have a uniform width of 270 mm, so that two units can be installed side by side in a 600 mm cubicle, For dimensions refer to Section 5.2. All connections are brought out to the lower equipment side. Plug-in type terminal blocks are provided for the signal conneetions. Control electronics are housed on two Printed Circuit Boards: Electronics PCB: ramp function generator, closed-loop-controllers, firing unit, pulse amplifiers, limit value detector ‘Supply PCB: power supply, field rectifier, AC Snubber Networks (up to 160A) Mode of operation The equipment acts as a speed controller with secondary current control. Due to an internally supplied armature voltage converter, it is also possible to set up a EMF-control without tacho generator. The thyristor power section comprises a fully-controlled three-phase AC bridge in connection B6C. ‘A number of supplementary and auxiliary functions are already incorporated in the basic unit: ‘¢ Ramp function generator; ‘* High-precision setpoint value source + 10 V; ‘¢ Fine adjustment of the actual speed value; ‘* Simple optimization of the speed controller by separate setting of the P and I action ‘components; ‘© Automatic adaption to 50 or 60 Hz power supply frequency; * Limit-value monitor for speed or current; © Grid connection field for customized supplementary circuits; * Plug-in locations for technology modules (plug connection and current margin of the power supply section); Plug-in type terminals for the external signal connections; * Drive-level control (actuation of the main contactor); © Buffered signals for actual values of speed and current in the grid connection field * The units functions are independent of the rotating field Siemens AG ATD TD6 Operating Instructions 6RX1220-0SD74 July1998 = 41 ~ SIMOREG K 6RA22010-8DS31 4.4 Technical Data 400 V Units Order No. @RA2200 - 8831 20 | 23 | 26 | 30 | 32 | 33 | 76 | 80 | Rated supply vollage 1) v BAC 400 (+15%) Power section (U1-V1-W1) any phase sequence Rated voltage 1) Vv 2AC 400 (+35%) Field rectifier (U2-V2) Rated voltage V BAC 400 (-20% 136%) 0,04 A Electronic section _(U3-V3-W3) tobe connected in phase with U1-V1-W1! For power supply of loads having a marked inductive character, e.g. field windings of direct current and synchronous machines, load-lifting magnets and similar devices, the following modifications are required as a general rule: © Extension of the gate pulses to 100% of the current conduction period: R125 to be replaced by a 8.2 KO resistor. * Adaptation of current controller feedback to the increased time constant of the load circuit: ‘Aller R87 and C81 such that their product approximately corresponds to the load time constant, i.e. R87 [kOQ] x C81 [HF] = Teas [ms] Frequently used values for motor fields: R87 = 470k, C81 = 1F '* Configure speed controller as 1:1 amplifier for current reference: Set jumpers B1-B2, B4-B5, B8-B9. Set potentiometer Kp (R 153) to center position. * Configure timit-value monitor for current interrogation: Set jumpers D5-D6, 07-08. ‘* Use potentiometer V for current setpoint generation: Connect terminal -X1:18 to -X1:17. Set jumpers A5-A6, C5-C6. Fit R 154 with resistor 10 KO. Refer to the "Block diagram with connection proposal for inductive oad in the appendix. Planning information: In order to ensure that no inadmissibly high surge voltages due to cutrent chopping can occur When the power supply fails, appropriate overvollage protection must be provided on the DC side. Devices suitable for this purpose are, for example, varistors and thyristor overvoltage protection equipment. Moreover, a 1.5 kQ. to 2.2 KQ protective resistor must be installed on the DC side to prevent surge voltages due to current chopping when the load current drops below the thyristor holding current., The resistor load rating must be determined according to the mains supply voltage: Pw = 2xU2/R The control must be designed such that controller disabling and main contactor release occur in a predefined sequence. The controller must be disabled first (cancel enabling signal at X1.20). ‘The main contactor may then be de-energized (disconnect terminal X1.21) on condition that the load current has fully decayed. In this case, the delay between "Controller enable off" and "Main contactor off" must correspond to at least five times the load time constant. Current chopping following mains power failure can be avoided if the converter unit is supplied via an isolating transformer or autotransformer. If this device is installed between the main contactor and converter unit, a closed current path is available for current decay in the event of a power failure, The use of 500V-units (6RA22...8DS31-Z-F00) is highly recommended. -46- July 1998 Operating Instructions 6RX1220-0S074 Siemens AG_ATD TD 6 SIMOREG K 6RA2200-8DS31 5 Installation A /ARNING Safe operation is dependent upon proper handling and installation by qualified personnel under observance of all warnings contained In this instruction manual In particular the general erection and safety regulations (e.g. DIN VDE) and regulations regarding the correct use of hoisting gear and tools and of personnel protective gear (safety goggles and the like) shall be observed. Non-observance of the safety instructions can result in death or severe injury or considerable damage to property! Even when the main contactor (line contactor) of the converter is open, hazardous voltage is still present in the equipment. Before commencing ‘maintenance or commissioning work all energy sources of the converter power supply shall be switched off and locked. The equipment may not be connected to a power supply system with residual current operated circuit-breaker (VDE 0160, Section 6.5), since in the event of a short-circuit to an exposed conductive part or of an earth fault a DC component may be present in the fault current, which hinders or prevents tripping of a superordinated residual current operated circull-breaker. In this case all other loads connected to this residual current operated circuit-breaker are without device protection. ‘The successful and safe operation of this equipment is dependent on proper handling, installation, operation and maintenance. Only qualified personnel ‘should work on or around this equipment after becoming thoroughly familiar with all warnings, safety notices and maintenance procedures contained in these operating instructions, In particular the generally applicable requirements contained in Regulations for Erection and Safety when carrying out work on Electric Power Installations (e.g. DIN VDE) shall be complied with in addition to all standards dealing with proper Use of hoisting gear and tools and the use of protection equipment for personnel (protective goggles, etc.) All work carried out on the equipment and its installation shall be performed in accordance with the national electrical regulations and the locally applicable standards. This includes the requirement that the equipment shall be properly earthed in order to ensure that neither the power supply system potential nor any other hazardous voltage appear at any freely accessible part of the equipment. IF itis necessary to carry out measurements during commissioning while the equipment is switched on, electrical contacts should under no circumstances be ‘touched. One hand should always be kept completely free outside the electrical circuits, Use should be made only of measuring equipment of which you are sure that it is safe and in working order. You should stand on an insulated surface (suitable for electrostatically endangered components) and convince yourself that this surface is not earthed during performance of commissioning work on the live equipment. ‘When carrying out work on the connected load, the equipment main switch or the plant-side automatic circuit-breaker must be secured in the OFF position by means of a padlock. During normal operation the covers should not be removed from their proper location and the door(s) of the equipment cubicle should be kept closed, These instructions do not contain an exhaustive list of all measures necessary {for safe operation of the equipment. Further measures may be necessary for L special applications or operating conditions. If special problems arise, which fare not adequately covered in these instructions for the purposes of the purchaser, please contact your local Siemens regional office. Siemens AG ATD TD 6 Operating Instructions 6RX1220-0SD74 July 1998. - 53 - SIMOREG K 6RA2200-8DS31 7A TAA TAZ Start-up, shut-down sequences For safe operation of the equipment it is necessary that the following sequences for starting up and shutting down of the drive be observed: Start-up ) Connection of the power supply of electronic section (U3-V3-W3) b) Connection of the motor field supply ©) Issue "Main contactor ON* command (load supply for converter U1-V1-W1) P24 (terminal X1.8) will be switched to terminal X1.21 The internal relay K 1 switches 50 ms later and energizes the main contactor via terminals XB.1 and X5.2. 4) The checkback signal "Main contactor ON" is switched to terminal X1.20 by means of the main contactor’s auxiliary contacts (P24 is available at terminal X1.8). The closed-loop control is thus enabled. Note: When P24 is applied to X1.20 and X1.21 the controller is enabled. Only the auxiliary contact of the main contactor or a contact of a component which is switched by the auxiliary contact of the main contactor may be used for generation of the checkback signal "Main contactor ON’: The use of contacts of relays or contactors, whose coils are connected in parallel to the main contactor, is not permissible because it is not assured that the main contactor contacts are really closed. Shut-down, disconnection Single-quadrant drives cannot brake electrically without external measures such as armature or field-circuit reversal. If the setpoint is set to zero or the main contactor de-energized, then they coast freely to a standstil. The drive can be shut down at any speed. For this purpose, the following procedure must be followed: a) Disconnect P24 at X1.21 (MAIN CONTACTOR ON). The control is then immediately disabled and the gate pulses shifted to the ow limit. As soon as the armature current has dropped to Zero, the gate pulses are disabled (provided that jumper E4-ES is inserted). Relay K 1 drops out approximately 60 ms later, de-energizing the main contactor. The drive coasts to a standstill Opening of the main contactor also deactivates the feedback at terminal X1.20; however, this no longer affects operation of the unit. b) The motor field should be shut off only after this procedure. ©) The electronic power supply should be disconnected (for example via the main ci breaker), only if the drive will be out of service for a longer period. The procedures described under 7.1.1 and 7.1.2 above are valid when using relay K 1 integrated in the SIMOREG unit for switching on the main contactor. When using a different control, for example a PLC, it must be ensured that the sequences described above are maintained, e.g. the controller enable signal should be given only when it has been ensured that the load contacts are actually closed. On disconnection it must be ensured that the controller is first disabled by removal of the enable signal at terminal X1 20. The main contactor may only be de-energized about 50 ms later. ~54- July 1998, Operating Instructions 6RX1220-0S074 Siemens AG_ ATD TD 6 SIMOREG K 6RA2200-8DS31 7.2 Setpoint generation, ramp-function generator ‘Speed setpoint n* is normally input at terminal X 1.4 against BS (terminal X 1.6). In the delivery state, n’ is taken to the speed controller input via the ramp-function generator. The ramp-up/ramp-down times can be set in the 8 to 22 s range by means of potentiometer HT (R194). If the application concerned requires other ramp-upramp-down times, they can be adapted through adjustment of capacitor C22 and resistor R193 (on soldering terminals). The adjustable time is proportional to the product (R193+R194) x C22. The values set must not be lower than the minimum specified values, ie. 380 nF for C22 and 470k9 for R193, Resistor location R184 can be equipped if a shorter ramp-down time is required. The minimum. value recommended is R184 = 4.7 kQ. A voltage of 0..+10 V is required for the setpoint input for operation with ramp-function generator. Upper transition rounding of the ramp generator output voltage to prevent overshoot at final speed ‘can be obtained by equipping locations V26 (diode 1N4148) and R31 (e.g. 10kQ). A stronger rounding action can be achieved by setting low values for R31. ‘The ramp-funetion generator can be bypassed if the setpoint must be specified without a ramp function. Plug-in jumper A4-AS must be inserted at A5-A6 for this purpose. 0...-10 V must now be applied to terminal X1.4 for the setpoint input. Use of the ramp-unction generator is, recommended if ramp-up times in the ms range are permitted; e.g. C22=10nF and R193=10k0. The ramp generator can be reset via grid connection field point RR3, i.e. the speed setpoint is reduced to zero. For this purpose, a +24 V voltage must be applied to RRS via a 22k0 resistor. After cancellation of the signal, the generator runs back up to the setpoint applied to the input when a controller enabling command is present. 7.3 Closed-loop EMF control The units are equipped as standard with an isolated armature-voltage measurement function. In the delivery state, the plug-in jumpers are arranged and the speed controller optimized such that ‘an EMF control can be implemented using the isolated voltage measurement. For test operation or in cases where accuracy requirements in continuous operation are not high, the drive can therefore be operated without a tachogenerator. Prerequisites: Connections according to block diagram Starting sequence according to 7.1.1 Setpoint input according to 7.2 However, if speed oscillations should occur unexpectedly, then the speed control proportional coefficient Kp must be reduced. Turn potentiometer R153 (Kp) to the left. If this does not improve the condition, then the reset time must also be increased. Turn potentiometer R156 (Tn) to the right. If the drive is stil not stabilized, then Kp must be drastically reduced by inserting plug-in jumper 87-88 at B8-B9. If further irregularities occur, then the current control loop must be examined (see Chapter 7.4; a cathode-ray oscilloscope is required to make the examination). If the drive Is operated permanently without a tachogenerator, it is advisable to compensate the armature voltage drop (xR) taking the relationship E=U,-lasRiq as a basis. Setting procedure: The laxRa compensation can be set using potentiometer V (R157) (jumper C4- CS ON) such that there are no notable speed variations between idling and load operation when setpoint n* is constant. Siemens AG ATD TD6 Operating Instructions 6RX1220-0SD74 July 1998 - 55 - SIMOREG K 6RA2200-8DS31 7.4 Closed-loop current control The current controller (pian 3/4) has a Pl action. The proportional coefficient is a result of the telationship R87/(R29+R34) and the reset time of the product R87xC81. In the delivery state, the controller is set to the following standard values: Proportional coefficient: approx. 0.2 Reset time: approx. 18 ms With these settings, standard drives can be controlled without difficulty. To determine the quality of the current control, the drive must be operated at standstil, ie. without excitation of the motor (exciter circuit disconnected) to prevent any significant torque from being generated, The armature current can be adjusted as required with a speed setpoint applied (approximately 10 % of rated value) by means of the current limiting potentiometer R146 (B+). A CAUTION ‘The armature current must not be allowed to flow for a prolonged period to avoid the risk of burns on the commutator bars. The actual current value is observed using an oscilloscope. With a non-pulsating (continuous) Current (no ripple between individual current peaks, approximately 30-50 % of rated armature current), the current peaks must be virtually symmetrical, slight deviations of maximum 10 % are permissible. Severely asymmetrical current peaks, i.e. more than 30 %, are an indication of current controller oscillation. In this case, the current controller feedback (R87=39 k, C81=047)1F ‘on soldering terminals) must be altered. R87 must be reduced and C81 increased accordingly, 0.9. 0.5 x R87 and 2 x C81. The product of R87 and C81 is a measure for the armature circuit time constant. When the armature circuit time constant is increased, ¢.g. through installation of a smoothing reactor in the armature circuit to reduce the torque ripple, the current control does not operate optimally at the standard settings. In this case, R87 must be increased. The current control quality can be judged most easily by assessing the step response to a setpoint step change (current setpoint change above pulsation limit). 7.5 Closed-loop speed control Prerequisite: Connections must have been made according to block diagram (refer to Chapter 8.1) and actual speed value (positive value) activated via plug-in jumper A2-A3. The lary ‘compensation is deactivated by re-connecting the jumper at C5-C6, Adjusting operating speed: E.g. apply + 5 V setpoint via terminal X1.4 and adjust speed to roughly half operating speed with potentiometer "ng®. Then adjust speed value finely with potentiometer “nf. Setting the proportional gain: * Tum potentiometer A156 (Tn) to far right end stop (max. reset time) and insert jumper B1-B2, i.e. speed controller then has a P action. ‘+ Tum potentiometer R153 (Kp) slowly from the far left-hand limit towards the right until the drive starts to become instable (periodic oscillation). Kp setting range on delivery: Approx. 2.1...21 (umper B7-B8) -56- July 1998 Operating Instructions 6RX1220-0SD74 Siemens AG ATD TD 6 SIMOREG K 6RA22010-8D831 If the drive exhibits instability when the potentiometer is tumed to the far left, then jumper B8-B9 ‘must be inserted (lowest possible gain, setting range approx. 0.4 ... 4) and the Kp setting process repeated. It drive response is not sufficiently dynamic even at far right end stop: Tum potentiometer R153, (Kp) back to far left, open jumper B7-B8 (i.e. no jumper inserted at B7-B8-B9, setting range approximately 18...180) and repeat Kp setting process. Setting the reset time: Insert jumper 82-83 (|-action component is activated). Turn potentiometer R186 (Tn) slowly from far right end stop until drive starts to become instable (periodic oscillation). Tn setting range on delivery: Approximately 22ms ... 220ms Ifthe drive is already unstable with the potentiometer at the far right end stop, then capacitor C160 (coarse reset time) must be increased. Double capacitance corresponds to twice the reset time. Ifthe rotational accuracy of the drive is stil not satisfactory after this procedure, the current control loop (refer to Chapter 7.4) must be examined, Zero point adjustment (drive standstill) Measure the speed controller output (measuring point i") against M (e.g. terminal X1.7) using a voltmeter. Enter a setpoint of 0 V (at terminal X1.4), set the additional speed setpoint (if connected) to 0 V, enable the optimized speed controller (with tacho-generator connected) and ‘sot minimum drift via potentiometer R183 (OP), i.e. adjust such that the value indicated on the voltmeter no longer changes. The drive must not be allowed to rotate. Note: When potentiometer R183 (OP) is used, the feedforward control action applied to the n controller may be too positive, causing the drive to accelerate with a "speed step change" when it is started from zero with the ramp-function generator, .¢. when the zero point is set, it is essential to ensure that the current setpoint i* does not drift too far from the positive direction towards 0 V. Actual value smoothing: In the delivery state, the actual speed smoothing setting is approximately 0.5 ms. If it is necessary in exceptional cases to increase this setting (e.g. owing to severe backlash in the tacho-generator coupling), then capacitor C38 can be fitted. Setpoint smoothing: In the delivery state, the smoothing time constant is 0.5 ms. This constant can be increased (additional capacitor) via grid connection field RA13, Measuring point An (= dn): The speed selpoinVactual value difference can be measured at this point. It is therefore particularly useful as the connection for a high-speed recorder for recording the dynamic response to speed setpoint step changes for the sake of optimizing the speed controller. 10 V at measuring point i* correspond to a 100% current setpoint (referred to unit rated current) for the current controller connected in series downstream. Setting the current limitation: Intemal current limitation: The current setpoint can be limited to values between 0 and 100 % by means of potentiometer F146 (Bs). External current limitation The adjustable current limitations can be changed externally by applying a positive voltage at terminal X1.19. In the case of a low-ohmic coupling, the external current limitation has priority over the internal limitation. +10 V at X1.19 correspond to a limitation of 100% rated current. Siemens AG ATD TD 6 ‘Operating Instructions 6RX1220-0SD74 July 1998. - 57 - SIMOREG K 6RA2200-8DS31 7.6 Limit-value monitor ‘The operating threshold for the integrated limit-value monitor is set by means of potentiometer R185 (GM). The monitor input can be connected either to the actual speed value or the actual armature current value: ‘+ Speed scanning function: Delivery state, plug-in jumpers D9-D8, D4-D5, E1-£2 If the speed exceeds the limit value set on potentiometer GM (positive voltage), the LED GM lights up and terminal X1.14 switches to M (max. load rating 50 mA, opposite end of load to +24 V, terminal X1.16). © Current scanning function: Plug-in jumpers D7-D8, D6-D5, E1-E2 If the current exceeds the limit value (negative voltage) set on potentiometer GM, the LED GM lights up and terminal 14 switches to M (max. load rating 50 mA, opposite end of load to +24 V, terminal X1.16) By changing the jumper connection from €1-E2 to E2-E3, output X1.14 can be configured such that it switches to P24 when the limit-value monitor responds. The opposite end of the load must in this case be connected to M or may be a PLC input. The permissible load rating is also 50 mA in this operating mode. 7.7 Grid connection field The points designated "R..” in the plans are located on the grid connection field, ensuring that all important signals are available in this field. This arrangement makes it significantly easier to implement any individual additional wiring, Example: The user wishes to display the actual speed value on an extemal device: Grid connection field point H1 (plan 8/7) is connected to point A14 (plan 8/7). The desired value is thus available via a protective resistor (560) at terminal X1.22. If signals which act internally as closed-loop control signals must also be available externally for display purposes, then itis advisable to bring them out for external use via operational amplifiers (Connected as impedance transformers). External interference on the unit function can thus be prevented. Appropriately isolated signals are already available at RH1 (n) and RR? (i) for the actual speed value and actual current value. 7.8 Additional speed setpoint value The jumper at C4-C5 must be inserted at C5-C6 when potentiometer R187 (V) is used for an additional speed setpoint via X1.17 or X1.15, for example, from @ dancer control in winding machine drives. The action can be altered by means of resistor R154 (on solder terminals). In the delivery state, the action is 110 kA, i.e. approx. 20%. With an EMF closed-loop control, location R39 must then be appropriately equipped (resistor >180k2) in order to obtain an IA x Ra compensation, Note: If location R39 is equipped, the total value of Uact is no longer available as an actual value owing to the voltage divider R18 Ii R138+R39. Only a value of <10 V may therefore be applied as a ‘maximum setpoint, e.g. 8.0V when R39=330k0 -58- July 1998 Operating Instructions 6RX1220-0SD74 Siemens AG_ATD TD 6 SIMOREG K 6RA2200-8DS31 7.9 Tables 7.9.1 Jumpers Jumper | Facioy | Funetion Drawing position | seting NoJGircuit i= A2 |X [EMF control: Intemal act. voltage applied ton controller as act. value. 2A 2-83 ‘Speed control: Actual tacho Value applied to ncontroller as actual value | 2/1 ‘A4-AS |X _ | Speed setpoint (0...r10V) taken via internal ramp-function generator. 23 AS -AB ‘Speed setpoint (0...10V) applied directly to speed controller 28 ‘A7-A8 |X _ | Ramp-tunction gonerator output connected to terminal X1.9 116 AB-AS Additional setpoint can be injected via terminal X1.9. v6 Bi -B2 Speed controler with P action 26 82-63 | x _| Speedcontrollr wth Pl action 26 B4-B5 ‘Actual speed value decoupled from speed controller.
