Field Assignment 09-01 Worksheet for Identifying Concerns

1. How do you think about yourself as a teacher? Explain.

As much as I would like to say I see myself as a very level headed and open minded
teacher, Id like to say that while teaching is something I do, its not my main priority. I
teach basic skills, independence, self care, etc. I am more an external support system.
2. How do you support childrens learning and development?
I foster independence and encourage them to develop appropriately. I always want my
kids to feel they are set up for success.
3. How do you partner with families?
Its very important to create a welcoming environment for the parent. The parent is
allowing you to be a significant part of the childs life. You are an extension of instilling
the morals and values that a parent would hope their child would have. You have to
understand the family and culture.
4. How do you collaborate with other professionals?
There are multiple ways to collaborate. There are school meetings and specific team
meetings. There are Iep meetings that allow you to collaborate with both the parents and
higher administration.
5. What are the influences of program variables (mentors, team meetings, and so on)?
I talked a little bit above about the collaboration of team meetings but there is also
setting the school environment for the child. In older children especially, there are teams
of people working for and with the child.

6. What are the influences of external system variables (state and national guidelines)?
These are more concern because of limitations. Theres restraints on how you teach a
child, how you touch them, how you test them, etc.
7. Other concerns:
N/A.
