KAHC Overview

The Kentucky Association of Highway Contractors was founded in 1921 and is dedicated to the
service and assistance of the highway construction industry in Kentucky. It services all types of
highway construction companies across the state. This includes grade and drain contractors,
bridge construction and repair contractors, paving contractors, and specialty contractors. Prime
contractors and sub-contractors are members as well as associate members comprised of
companies and operations that serve as suppliers of materials and services to the highway
construction industry. Currently, the association has approximately 280 member companies
across the Commonwealth of Kentucky conducting approximately one billion dollars of work
annually for state and federal contracts administered and let through the Kentucky Transportation
Cabinet.
The association serves as a central source of information for its members. We conduct research
and education programs and help represent the interests of highway contractors before state and
federal agencies and legislatures. The primary interface of the association is between the
membership and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the state agency responsible for highway
and bridge construction in Kentucky. The association staff also works with members of the
Kentucky Legislature and their staff. Our annual convention is a major event that brings all of
our members together. A summer Board of Directors and Past Chairman event is conducted at
The Greenbrier Resort in White Sulfur Springs, WV.
An Executive Committee comprised of the Chairman, Vice Chairman and Treasurer as well as
the current 13 members of the Board of Directors guide the affairs of KAHC, determines basic
policies, and employs an Executive Director and staff to carry out those policies. The Executive
Director is accountable to the Board and is responsible for all administrative management
functions of the association. Staff members perform their particular duties for KAHC under the
direction of the Executive Director.
The KAHC office is located in downtown Frankfort, KY in the Depot building that is the
renovated L & N train depot building and conveniently located between the Capitol building and
the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet building on Mero Street.
