Roosevelt created a charity during the Great Depression. He had a disease called Polio that he hid from the public. However, he supported the cause in public by creating the Warm Springs Foundation. His birthday was used to collect money for the foundation for many years. Later the warm springs foundation transformed into The March of Dimes. President Roosevelt used his relationship with the entertainment industry and a popular newsreel series of the day called The March of Times to create and raise money for The March of Dimes. Upon his death the Polio vaccine was developed and led to the FDRs image on the dime in January 30, 1946. This example shows that public relations have been used in the professional world before it was believed to be a professional job. It shows how relationships and images are important in public relations. President Roosevelt was successful in his journey to helping the victims of polio disease because of his connections and status. It is an example of the growth of advocacy.
