omitted insulin dose. On examination, the patient has an increased depth and
rate of respiration, called Kussmaul breathing as what the patient presented. The
mouth, tongue and lips are dry. The majority of doctors can smell ketones on the
patients breath. However, this is an unreliable sign as the sign would depends
on the examiners experience in detecting the ketotic smell
