TV show. It follows the adventures of the Doctor who travels in the TARDIS, time and relative
dimension in space, all over the universe.
I. Observation
Background information: For the following observations listed they will take place in multiple
locations, for example, modern day London, inside the TARDIS (Relative Time and Dimension
in Space) , Amelia Ponds home and multiple places around the universe. In addition, the
Doctor Who series has been going on since 1963 where the Doctor regenerates to save himself
from dying. This leads to new adventures and new companions. These episodes are specifically
based on the time when the Doctor meets Amy Pond and takes her in as the newest companion
on his spaceship. Moreover, the episodes draw you into new discoveries that will leave you
intrigued in the series.
ACTORS: The Doctor, Amy Pond, Rory Williams, Vincent van Gogh, Craig Owens, Sophie
The Doctor: The Doctor is the protagonist of the series who displays a variety of skills and
intelligence about the universe. He is hundreds of years old and has traveled far throughout the
the universe and gained knowledge that many will never learn. The Doctor descends from a race
called the Timelords on a planet, Gallifrey; he is the last of his kind. The Doctor spends his time
going on great adventures and saves the Earth and many other planets he encounters. He time
travels in the TARDIS through space and time experiencing new adventures with his
companions. Although the Doctor can be cheerful, childish and energetic he is actually lonely
and loves to pick of good friends along his journeys.
Amy Pond: The Doctors Scottish companion who goes on adventures with him in the TARDIS.
She is known as the girl who waited, throughout the series. She met the Doctor when she was a
little girl but because of some complications with the TARDIS he did not return until 12 years
later. Amy had become an independent young woman who left to go on explorations of the
universe with the Doctor.
ARTIFACTS: These are objects or devices that carry a significant or meaningful value to
the main players of this figured world.
Sonic Screwdriver: A device that aids the Doctor by scanning, picking locks, hacking
computers and there are many more uses. It is modified throughout the series and new functions
are created with it. The sonic screwdriver helps the Doctor investigate or understand new things
that he encounters on his adventures.
TARDIS: The TARDIS stands for Time and Relative Dimension in Space. It is the spaceship
that helps the Doctor and his companions to travel through space and time. Without this object
the Doctor would have never met any of his companions or been able to save the world.
3:00mins: The scene starts out in a wheat field with the crows being spooked by something.
Flashing to the present the Doctor takes Amy on a trip to the Muse DOrsay in Paris to look at
some of Vincent van Goghs masterpieces. Amy and the Doctor notice an alien like figure in one
of Vincents paintings of a church and decides to travel back to June of 1890 before the painting
was created to investigate the mysterious creature in the window of The Church of Auvers. After
arriving in the town that Vincent van Gogh lives in, they went to a tavern only to find the painter
begging for another alcoholic drink. The owner refused to give him any because he had no
money to pay for it. Amy interrupted the owner and Vincent arguing and decided to buy a bottle
of wine for them to sit and talk. The Doctor asked if he was interested in painting any churches
any time soon, trying to see where the alien might be hiding.
7:00mins: Screams were heard from down the street of a woman who found a murdered teenage
girl. A crowd started to form and the Doctor pushed his way through yelling, Im a doctor, Im a
doctor! The mother of the girl cried and blamed Vincent for what happened calling him a
madman. The villagers threw stones at them as they ran away Vincent offered his home for the
Doctor and Amy to stay only one night. Amy and the Doctor marveled at all of the paintings that
Vincent had painted. There were some of the most famous artworks drying out in the front yard
of his little home. Amy went to go look at the artworks when all of the sudden she screamed.
The Doctor and Vincent ran from his home to find Amy on the floor because she had been
attacked by something from behind.
12:00mins: Vincent starts freaking out and yelling at something no one else can see. The Doctor
and Amy try to calm him down believing that he might be crazy then the Doctor was hit by
something invisible and flung into the air. Now believing that he is right to be afraid, the Doctor
tries to help fight a monster that he cannot see. Vincent fights off the monster sending it running
back into the woods. Afterwards Vincent draws what he saw and the Doctor takes it back to the
TARDIS to be examined by a machine that he has so they can find out what type of alien is after
him.
15:00mins: Unfortunately, he runs into the monster and now is running away so that it wont kill
him. After losing the creature the Doctor runs into Amy in the road and the devise a plan to find
the creature and end its reign of terror. After, the Doctor finds Vincent crying in his room
depressed and angry. However, he gets up and goes with them to the church to fight against the
alien monster.
23:00mins: On their way to the church they come across the funeral being held for the girl who
was murdered. When they got to the church Vincent started to paint then after some time had
passed the Doctor started to feel nervous. The monster appeared in the church window just like
what Vincent had painted in the painting before the Doctor and Amy had arrived. There was a
crash from inside of the church where the Doctor went to investigate. They hid in the closet
trying to hide from the alien when it crashes through it and Vincent comes to save them. The
alien was impaled and killed by the painter. Afterward the Doctor and Amy left in the time
machine to go revisit the museum with Vincent to show him how great his artwork made an
impact on world.
the Doctor goes into work for Craig so he can rest for the day, however, Craig doesnt take it in a
good way and is upset that the Doctor can do everything better than him.
II. Interview Questions
1. What is the most likeable trait of the Doctor?
He is adventurous always wanting to explore new and unique places while saving his friends and
the human race. The Doctor fun and caring but always knows how to have an adventure.
2. What are some highlights of the 11th Doctors journey?
Some of the craziest adventures that they went on were when the Doctor fell from the sky in the
TARDIS and met Amy Pond, when they met Hitler or when they went back in time and found
dinosaurs on a spaceship.
3. What makes this show more appealing than other Si-Fi shows?
This show has been going on since 1963 which a lot longer than most TV series. The Doctor is
always entertaining with how he goes about his life and how he wants to save everyone.
4. Why do Amy and Rory stick with the Doctor?
I think they do that because the want to see new worlds and travel through time with the raggedy
doctor like Amy always wanted too. They want to explore and have an adventure.
5. Why does the Doctor feel the need to save everyone?
He couldnt save his home planet so he tries to save everyone he can. Also, he has a very caring
nature and cant turn down people when he see that they are in trouble.
III. Analyze
There are multiple different rules and convictions that the 11th Doctor carries with him
throughout his lifetime. For example, in the series Doctor Who, the Doctor will say the same
catchphrase Geronimo! when he is about to do something exciting or dangerous. Another rule
or convection would be that he keeps secrets of the past and future so he does not change history.
For instance, in the episode Vincent and the Doctor, if the Doctor told Vincent that in just a few
months he was going to commit suicide it might have changed the future of history and created
an alternate world. In addition, it is interesting how the Doctor has such a strong impact on his
companions who he travels around with in the TARDIS. They are all impacted in different ways
whether its good or bad they are all grateful for meeting the Doctor and going on exciting
adventures with him. One of the most surprising aspects of the Doctor is his infinite knowledge
of everything in the universe. He has lived a long time and knows almost everything their needs
to know about everything except common scene of everyday life. In the episode, The Lodger, the
Doctor doesnt know how to play football or what it is but its a sport that everyone has heard of.
The most intriguing part about the doctor is how he loves adventures and no matter how horrible
or dangerous it is he still will jump right into one with his companions if he gets the chance.

V. Propose
In the series, Doctor Who, I have found many unique themes that peak my interest for a
research topic. For example, how the Doctor impacts his companions, his infinite knowledge or
even keeping his most grim times secret. I am the interested in researching how the Doctor helps
those who need it and how he can he can still be the happy-go-lucky Doctor that his companions
know. Although the aliens that he encounters can be dangerous and harmful he will still try to
help them in anyway that he can. I find it interesting that after seeing all of what he has scene for
the 900 years, he still is wholeheartedly loves every creature. The only people who can keep him
sane are his human companions. I am interested in how the Doctor interacts with his companions
and how he impacts their daily lives.
