    The poem "The Charge of the Light Brigade" by Alfred, Lord Tennyson describes the Battle of Balaclava during the Crimean War. It tells of 600 soldiers of the Light Brigade who were ordered to "Charge for the guns" and ride into "the valley of Death" between lines of enemy cannon fire on both sides and in front of them. Though the soldiers knew someone had made a mistake in the order, their duty was simply to obey the order and face almost certain death, which they did bravely.
