InthenovelNight,wieseldescribestwoscenesoftheconditionscausedbythe
transportationcarsandhowtheprisonersreacttoit.While,bothdemonstratethesimilarstatesof
beingoftheprisoners,thescenesdeviatefromoneanotherastheyexposethetransitionofa
humanbeingofacivilisedsensetothatwhoexposestheirtrue,inherent,andcarnalselvesinthe
nextpassage.
Thetwothingsdifferfromeachotherinthewaywhereoneseenthepicsthey'recivilized
thoughtsandactionstotheotherportrayinghowtoughconditionscanturnhumansintofamished
beings.Thetransportationcarshadcreatedsuchconditionsthatitwashardtosit,stand,breathe,
orgotosleep.Astheprisoner'ssawnightappearing,theycouldbegintothoseagain,torest,to
dream(Ch.2).TheJewishprisonersmaintainedtheirhopeandfaithforabettertomorrowyet
tocome.Theywereambitiousandidealisticabouttheirfutureconditionsandhowthedreadful
torturewouldsooncometoanend.Theywantedtodreamtoescapefromtheunimaginable
terrorsoftheirreality.However,soondidtherealizethattheywouldhavetocontinuefacingit.
Contradictorytotheirthoughtsabove,theylaterfelttheir,eyesclose,andmerelywaitedforthe
nextstoptounloadthedead,(Ch.7).Inthesecondscene,theyhadlostallhopeandacceptedto
remainthevictimsofthebitterreality.Thewereamongthedeadandmanycorpses,theyno
longerfelthuman.6aftertheirstateofbeingandIwaitedforsomethingmorepractical,likethat

prisonersHefulfillshisdutiesofason.Incontrasttothisscene,astimeprogressesintheother
