Reflection Letter
English 114b has been a course that has definitely changed my writing views and
old writing habits. Since this course had a theme on identity, English114B has changed
my writing in a way that makes me write with a meaning, which bettered my
explanations through the purpose of the topics I wrote about. For example, the final essay
on the book everyday gave me sense of what true identity is, especially since the book
Everyday by David Levithan was solely about identiy. The book was a really good book
that made me give a better analysis of it because of its content about identity. The
literature involved in the book goes deeper than a story or a tale, it had elements of
meaning that made analyzing and writing about it change my view on identity.
One of the difficult issues that I did have was starting the writing process. I lacked
creativity and inspiration on the beginning of many essay I wrote. The first one was
obviously the hardest. It took so much thought out of me, especially since the topic of
identity was the theme. It is a great topic to write about, though because it takes a lot of
thought and development of the a thesis for the essay, it was hard on me. But once I
started, it came to me and I kept going off of my ideas.
I feel as if my writing has improved slightly. I still have work to do on developing
a thesis, and staying on the subject throughout the whole essay. Though I have felt also

that this course has been a major help to my English development, and would take this
course again.
