To Whom it May Concern: Ms. Joana Ruiz has served Camarena Elementary as a student teacher during the 2014-15 school year (5th grade) and as a long term sub first semester of 2015-16 (1st grade). In both these assignments, Ms. Ruiz has demonstrated an eagerness and ability to learn from her colleagues, maturing pedagogical techniques, and developed high quality professional relationships with students, staff, and parents. Ms. Ruiz has been equally adept at connecting with students in grades 1 and 5. She has soaked up the lessons of her master teacher and through practical experience learned to manage her classroom with skill and intentionality. Her classroom is characterized by purposeful work and her students engage in high levels of thinking and learning because of the thoughtful planning and careful implementation of lessons. She utilizes technology throughout her lessons to deliver engaging and high interest content, allow her students to practice the skills and strategies to improve their learning, and for students to demonstrate what they are learning through writing and multimedia. Colleagues and parents alike have benefited from Ms. Ruizs genuine concern for students and quality instruction. She contributes to her grade level team effectively by participating in collaborative discussions and sharing her ideas to improve units of study. She is also learning to communicate regularly and proactively with parents to foster a partnership in the learning experience of every student. The end result is that her students are thriving academically, socially, and emotionally under her careful guidance and motivation. I confidently give my strongest recommendation to this outstanding young educator who will positively impact her classroom and school community.
