For my first question I asked what is an IEP? and was very happy with the
results. 80% of the class answered this question correctly. I felt that this was a very
good level 2 question. If I were teaching an introduction to special education course
I would expect that every student knew what an IEP was. The two students that
chose differently through me off a little bit. I can see how a student would assume
that an IEP was for all students. However, I cannot see how a student would believe
that an IEP is a diagnostic test, services for all students, and services for student
needing special education.
My next question asked what an IEP does. I was not as happy with the results
of this one, with only 50% answering correctly. I felt that at an introduction level
course students should know, at the very least, what an IEP is and what it does.
20% of students said that an IEP measures where students are at in their learning. I
think that if I were to ask this question again I would take that option out of the
answers. An IEP does give ways of measuring a students progress but that is not its
sole purpose and I think that was a bit misleading. As for the 30% that answered
all of the above, I think many students get thrown off by an option such as this. I
do not think that I would take this option out, though. It is important for students to
go with what they know and not guess an answer because why else would the
teacher through this option in there. If I were a professor in this course I would go
back to this and ensure that my students had a better understanding.
My final question was asking about RTI. Only 2 students got this correct. This
was upsetting. I think that I could take into consideration writing out response to

intervention, but I still believe that since RTI will be used in the field that is what
should be known. I also believe that this is something all future general education
teachers should have a firm grasp of since RTI takes place in their classroom before
the student comes to special education. I would go back to this and spend a lot of
time on making sure that my students understood what RTI is and that they
understood the importance of it.
