Crescent's P-24 Planer's Money Saving EXTRAS
PECIAL features such as the four knife
round safety type cutterhead, mount-
ed in oversized precision ball bearings,
make Crescent Planers outstanding wher-
ever efficiency and high production are a
requirement. The P-24 frame is cast in a
one piece semisteel casting correctly bal-
anced with substantial ribs for added
strength wherever undue stress can occur.
The bed is likewise of semi-steel, accurately
machined with a hand wheel adjustment
and a heavy screw hoist mounted on en-
closed heavy ball thrust bearings. Because
it is gibbed to the frame, the bed cannot tip
or chatter. Proper stock guidance is as-
sured by strips cast on both sides. Hinged
doors of solid metal provide safety for the
operator and offer a maximum protection

the solid metal doors that protect the gear
and variable drive assembly against dust
and dirt accumulation. The motor shaft is
built directly on the cutterhead cylinder
and is shown without the motor
from an accumulation of dust and dirt. The
P-24 has two upper and two lower feed
rolls, and all four are power driven at a
three-to-one ratio variable speed by a one
horse-power ball bearing motor with rates
of feed from twenty to sixty feet per min-
ute. Chip breakers are adjustable and ar-
ranged concentric with the cutting circle.
With a %" yield it cannot strike the cutter-
head knives. A sectional type Chip Breaker
with 2” sections and an upper infeed roll
with 1” sections may be had as optional
equipment at a small additional charge.
The lubrication of the Crescent P-24 Planer
is both simple and positive with alemite
and oil fittings efficiently reaching every
moving part of the machine.

aiThe Four-Knife
Crescent Cutterhead
fin Improved Feature
FINE finish surfacing costs you less, and you get
more of it—one third more — because of Cres-
cent's specially featured fourknife round head,
as against the conventional three-knife head
usually found in other machines.
The fourknife Crescent cutterhead was first
introduced by Crescent engineers as a safety
measure, and has been continually improved until
today it is recognized as one of the most efficient
production heads obtainable on the market. The
knives are of special high speed steel, and will
carry a keen cutting edge for long periods under
the toughest kind of service. These blades can be
sharpened without the necessity of taking the
knives out of the head for grinding, by using a
motor driven adjustable knife grinder that does
a precision job rapidly and with ease. A jointing
device replaces this grinder within a few sec-
onds, and is used to true up the knives so that all
four knives will cut, thus making the perfect job
necessary for high quality surface planing. A
patented key adjustment sets the knives securely
until such time as they are purposely released,
maintaining constant rigidity while the machine is
in operation.
A five or seven and one half horsepower ball
bearing type motor is built directly on the cutter-
head cylinder making a very modem drive and
eliminating excess floor space. A separate push
button panel is built in the front of the machine
operating magnetic starters which have overload
and undervoltage protection. The reversing of
feed is one of the many features provided in this
easy to operate panel.
