Reads texts containing some unfamiliar vocabulary and a significant number of high
frequency words to a high capacity in all learning areas. Self corrects using context, prior
knowledge, punctuation and phonemic awareness. Creates texts, drawing on own
experiences, imagination and information learnt. Uses strategies to engage in group
discussions and oral presentations. Comprehensive ability to spell familiar words and
attempts to spell less common words. Demonstrates excellent achievement in literacy.

Literacy B
Reads texts that contain some unfamiliar vocabulary and a significant number of high
frequency words to a strong capacity. Self corrects using context, prior knowledge,
punctuation and phonemic awareness. Creates texts, drawing on own experiences,
imagination and information learnt. Uses strategies to engage in group discussions and
oral presentations. Thorough ability to spell familiar words and attempts to spell less
common words. Demonstrates a good achievement in literacy.
Literacy C
Reads texts that contain some unfamiliar words and a number of high frequency words to
an adequate capacity. Occasionally self corrects using context, prior knowledge,
punctuation and phonemic awareness. Creates texts, drawing on own experiences,
imagination and information learnt. Uses strategies to engage in group discussions and
oral presentations. Basic ability to spell familiar words and attempts to spell less common
words. Demonstrates a satisfactory achievement in literacy.
Literacy D
Reads some texts that contain unfamiliar words and a basic number of high frequency
words to an adequate capacity. Partially self corrects using prior knowledge, punctuation
and phonemic awareness. Creates texts in familiar scaffolded contexts, drawing on own
experiences, imagination and information learnt. Uses basic strategies to engage in
group discussions and oral presentations. Makes some attempt to spell words using
phonetic strategies. Demonstrates a partial achievement in literacy.
Literacy E
Reads limited texts that contain unfamiliar words and a basic number of high frequency
words to a minimal capacity. Learning to self-correct using prior knowledge, punctuation
and phonemic awareness. Creates visual texts in limited genres, drawing on own
experiences, imagination and information learnt. Rarely uses strategies to engage in
group discussions and oral presentations. Makes some attempt to spell words using
phonetic strategies. Demonstrates a minimal achievement in literacy.
