Nothing Special

(Draft 3)

It came from the depths of the world we know. It escaped from the crust that had
locked it away for so many years. It wanted out and they chose to release it. It pulled
itself from the dust and stood hunching. The biped has begun its journey.
***
Dustins parents did not seem to like him. They would periodically send him away
when he did something that they considered deviant. He had been a mainstay at nearly
all of his living relatives at some point or anothernone of which lasted. Being not
particularly astute on all things social after the many biologically connected sojourns, he
spent most of his time outside to avoid conflict. Away from his family, by the sky, he
simply was.
It was not Dustins fault that his real father had died. He chose it. He chose it. His
birthing mother and new mate took in Dustin. Having already procreated once again,
the duo saw no need for him; however, they did what was fashionable at the time and
took in their son, the house slave.
One day Dustin came home late after being brutally beaten by one of the neighbor
kids. His new male keeper was waiting for him on the porch. Joe was very upset but did
not believe in violence. He believed in forgiveness.
Joe decided to speak with the priest before Sunday mass. Father Stevens made is
clear in front of all that Dustin needed to repent. The Way of the Cross spoke to Dustin
as hundreds prayed for him. That night he collected his change and belongings. He set
out the next morning before school.

The creature made its way through the wilderness eventually stumbling upon a
paved road. It paused momentarily studying the subject before moving its large rigid
foot onto the cement. The biped continued on the path leaving rocky breadcrumbs
behind. Its only audience was the natural world, for now.

Dustin stuck close to the woods where it was cooler for the first portion of his
journey. He tried his best to try to stay out of the sight of the others. He figured he
might have a couple days worth of money for food, and if he kept to the forest he could
make several shelters out of tree branches. He was going to have to learn to wash
clothes in the creek. He had stolen some detergent the night before from his guardians.
He didnt think theyd noticeafter all, he was the only one to use the washer anyway.

Findings Show More to Creature than Originally Thought

By John Noam November 15, 20- 7:00 am
The recent rage of the creature can only be viewed has historical. Scientists have
been clamoring to find rationale of the brute. More.
***
A couple of days had passed; Dustin had begun to adjust. He lost fear of his family
looking for him. He enjoyed the sunlight and sundown. Dustin now had constructed a
crude hut for the night. He lay awake gazing at the holes of light in the night. He loved
it. He saw the light in his sleep.

2
A sound coupled with vibration woke Dustin. He was scaredafraid it would all
endwhatever they said he wouldnt talk. He lifted up the branch to take a peek. He
saw the earth creature walking. He sat back, gathered himself, and looked again. It still
remained, trudging along. Curiosity set in: He didnt know what it was and more
importantly he didnt know if it was going to kill him. Its tracks lay in front of the boy like
a sore spot on the earth. It must have walked right by me.
After thinking about how he could try to be more concealed in the future, he
realized he had forgotten about the mysterious creature that now as gaining distance.
He grabbed his things and decided to track it.
The boy, after what actually was only about fifteen solid minutes, worked up
enough courage to confront the beast. Hey! the boy said hiding behind a tree.
No response.
Dustin thought of the next logical thing to say. Hey you! he exclaimed.
The large brute did not even turn to face the noise. Dustin, now ignored, decided
to take a closer look.
Dustin slowly examined every feature of the creature. Its movements were slow
and its flesh was stiff as if it had been sun-dried into flakey clay. The boy crept closer
and closer to the moving mass until his foot bumped the back of its large pads. The boy
senselessly reached out to touch the beast. He realized how near he now was to the
biped. Startled, the child stopped to regain his bearings. He looked for a response.
Nothing.
Dustin decided to continue his pursuit.
Now impatient, Dustin attempted to move the conversation forward. He tried to
greet the creature with a smile followed by a resounding Hello. Even though there was
no response, the boy tried to advance negotiations.
My name is Dustin. Whats yours? he said enthusiastically.
The brute kept moving.
Puzzled and oddly somewhat comforted, the only knew one other way to
communicate. The boy stopped walking and stared down the creature. He reached
down to the ground to find a solid object. He struck the beast.
No response.
Dustin, now awestruck, decided he must follow and study. This was going to be
the beginning of a shapely relationship.

Initial Path Undetermined for Wanderer

By John Noam November 17, 20- 7:30 am
It walks. It walks and walks. Its unclear where it is heading but with it the nation
observers. This wanderer has the world wondering. More.

The boy followed the biped for days. When he slept he would place himself near
the debris and tacks left behind by the creature. Dustin had little trouble catching the
creature because of its unbelievably slow pace. The boy had found something to do,
finally.
The childs meals consisted of the convenience store variety: beef jerky, chips, sugar
cakes, etc.
One day, when the child had to follow the biped through the city. His tracks
stopped on the pavement; the clay remnants, however, increased. The city was tarring

him apart. The boy thought nothing of it. He was just happy to be able to continue the
chasea chase that now included a flood of media, vehicles, and people.
***
About the same time the media coverage hit, a man was reading his newspaper
and chewing gum obnoxiously. It was if the gum was there only to soften a collision of
Pauls teeth. He was dressed in a suit and his feet were positioned snuggly on top of his
desk. His hair was combed to perfection, although receding. He set down his paper to
listen to the news of this creature. Interviews of townspeople were shown as well as the
biped itself making its way through crowds and microphones. The man, also known as
Paul, stared at the screen for about an hour with his head resting on his first as news
spokesmen repeated themselves over and over again. It was after this that corporate
owner came to a conclusion, Betty, Im going on vacation, the pale man said with a
grinhe wore his arrogance on his sleeve.
***
Several days passed. Although the people started to disperse, the coverage did
not. Helicopters flew overhead periodically. Those that did follow generally left in the
night. The bipeds encased eyes remained focused.
People had begun to draw conclusions about the bipeds path and purpose. He
was a sign from God or things to come. He was the purpose. He had a purpose. He had
purpose. Dustin wasnt convinced. He hadnt heard any of these theories from the
biped himself. He figured hed let him know if he had something to say.
***
It was a breezy day as the boy pillaged through his pockets to find nothing. He has
used the last of his change on a candy bar. Dustin closed his eyes to block off the
sunbeams reflecting off of a pale forehead. It was the gum-chewing Paul and he was
ready for the journey. Paul had sophisticated and rich hiking gear; the tags were still on
the bags that he carried. He looked down at Dustin and winked. Paul marched ahead of
the pack and biped. He stood on his toes measuring up the beast. Dustin walked beside
the biped and spoke up to seemingly break a potential confrontation.
He dont talk, Dustin mumbled.
This broke Pauls concentration. He was disgusted. Is that so? Paul said peering
his eyes directly a Dustin. Paul then glanced at the small audience behind the clay figure
and smiled brightly. Well, well just have to change that wont we? Paul said
ecstatically. The audience laughed as if they must. Paul joined the pack.
Dustin and Paul stood on opposite sides of the biped. Dustin was not impressed
with Paul and found him somewhat despicable after being around him for just a couple of
hours. Dustin didnt like robots. The childs attitude soon changed as nighttime
approached. His stomach growled loudly. He had forgotten to eat. Paul gave the boy a
smirking glare as if he knew exactly what the child wanted. Are you hungry boy? Paul
said staunchly. It was clear that he wanted recognition.
I could eat, Dustin mumbled not looking up.
The two stopped off at a local diner, although Paul didnt seem like he would much
like the taste of a burger, he had to make sort of sacrifice for his journey. As Dustin
ordered it was quite obvious that Paul was full of himself. He enjoyed watching the boy
eat and be dependent on him. The boy smiledhe enjoyed using the man for food.
Days had passed as they walked alongside the golem still. Paul would point things
out in the scenery for the child; the child hated it because he knew it was making him
closer to Paul. They had seen things together therefore they had to have at least that
connection. Even though the boy knew they were connected now, he would easily give
up Paul for the non-social golem.

The media had tried to interview Dustin before, but he wanted nothing to do with
it. Paul had a different take on it.
