SC 29576 5 May 2016 Mrs. Crist Saint James High School 10800 Hwy 707 Murrells Inlet, SC 29576 Dear Judges I am a senior at St James High School. I have attended the St James school system since 6th grade. Senior year has been rough for me, but I have actually managed to pull through. I am in the process of choosing to go to college at either Coastal Carolina University or Coker College. Both schools are liberal arts, and I plan to become an art major. Graduating this June is just the beginning of my journey. I choose the topic of Alcoholism within Families because my family is a long line of alcohol dependents. I wanted to be aware of the chances I have of becoming an alcoholic. I wanted to know all the facts about why and how you can become an alcoholic, and what it does to not only the alcohol dependent, but to the family as well. I already have so much experience in this field because I am a witness in a family of drinkers. Working on this topic has taught me a lot, especially on how to deal and cope with my family members who are still severely bad drinkers. The senior project has been very personal to me, to the point where I am in tears. My family life has always been a struggle, not only because of the poverty that we live in but because when alcohol is involved it is never a good ending. The effect that senior exploration has put on me, has created me to become closer with the family members who are alcohol dependents. It has made me become more understanding with them, willing to work with them more and listen to them because I have more patients to listen. I comprehend that it is not all their fault, alcohol is not an excuse but it is a disease. It was a great experience spending my last semester of high school working on something that is touching to me. I believe that my goal of learning more about alcoholism has been accomplished. I want to thank the judges for all their time and concern. I genuinely enjoyed working on senior exploration and appreciate the judges willingness to review all of my research. Presentation can be stressful but I know that with time and practice everything will be perfect. Again I appreciate the chance to present in front of you all. Sincerely, Harmoni Garbade
