What is CAD and GIS

CAD: Computer-aided design is the use of computer programs to create two or
three dimensional graphical representations of physical objects

GIS: A geographic information system is a system designed to capture, store,

manipulate, analyze, manage, and present all types of spatial or geographical data.

Why This Class is Good

- You learn how to create 2D and 3D models of anything you can think of
- We use programs such as 123D Design, Autocad, Tinkercad, Sketchup, QGIS,
and ArcGIS
- Design: throughout this class you will be given projects to complete where you
can design your own product and find out the most efficient ways to put that
product on the market
- You will design your own website, come up with all of the materials you need,
and eventually create a realistic model

Design Cycle

Our Project We Did

- In the beginning of this year we had to come together in groups and formulate
an idea that through different programs we would be able to modify and sell to
a product
- Our idea was at first to create one of the mini segways but in the end decided to
create a long board that has a motor to propel you from destination to
destination. Through programs like CAD, 123d edit, Arcgis, and Qgis we were
able to create our design and figure out where we would sell our Travel Board.

3D Printer and Laser Cutter

WE NOW HAVE A 3D PRINTER!!!

The possibilities are now endless with what you will be able to do next
year
Now with your creativity you can now 3D print anything and the 3D
printer can be integrated into any project. We can also personalize
anything and create our product out of any material.
The laser cutter can be incorporated into what you design, it can create
objects as well as put designs on objects, for example you can laser a
design on your laptop
