Grade level: 4th grade


School: Webling Elementary School
Number of students: 26 students (15 boys and 11 girls)
Diverse learners: 1 student in SPED (resource room for Math
and Language Arts, and 1 student with ASD (Autism Spectrum
Disorder/Behavioral Problems)
Range of reading levels: Below grade level to above grade
level (2nd grade to 6th grade reading level or beyond)
Curriculum programs: Wonders by McGraw Hill (basal text
book used by all fourth grade level classrooms.

Instructional Approach: Read alouds, Kid Biz,


reading/writing workshop, chapter quizzes and tests.
Assessment tools: Informal and Formal Assessments
(comprehension tests, spelling tests, vocabulary tests,
worksheets, one on one conferences with students,
group/pair discussions)
Special Reading Programs: There is no special reading
program for the students.

Attitude: Majority of the students like to read. While a


handful of the students sometimes likes to read and only
one students doesnt like to read.
Interests: Favorite genres are fairy tales/folktales, fantasy
and science fiction.
Learning Styles: Less than half of the class agree that
they can comprehend what theyre reading, while the other
half of the class hopes to improve on comprehending.
Overall, students feel that reading more will help them
improve.
Work Habits: Students prefer to read at home and
majority of the students read for the required time (15-30
minutes a day).

Essential for ALL Teachers: Providing frequent and positive


feed back, assigning tasks that are within students range to
meet the needs of the students, create an positive and open
environment where students are encouraged to ask questions
and make connections with the stories read.
Lessons: Incorporate a variety of lessons including, activities
that encourage students to work collaboratively, group work
and discussions, hands on activities. Encourage all the
students to participate in all activities.
Implementation plan: To help students become proficient
readers, I can read-aloud with the students. With read-alouds
I can model reading strategy skills as well as fluency.
