Signature & Date: Breyhauna Johnson 476 UwRT 1102-019 Project One: Advocacy as Literacy 'n broader terms, literacy can be anything really. It can be the languages we read, write, and “SPSS: OF something as simple as the type of book that we read, or the posters we create When rall and, "8 for something important to us. Advocacy isa literacy within itself: a very special Very important factor factor in society, Advocating for something we feel passionate about can as the sun alone possesses enough energy to power everything we need, every day. Finding the right way to hamess this potential energy would relieve s¢pfia environmental sires that is put on the Earth every day from the use of fossil fuels to generate our electricity. SEIA takes part in this by creating forums that connect solar professionals together as well as key industry leaders to expand their businesses, exchange ideas, and move the industry forward, ‘They do this through educational seminars, webinars, networking events, and business-to-business tradeshows. For example, they promote Solar Power Southeast, an event where nearly 200 solar companies and over 500 industry leaders come together to share ideas and best practices for expanding the Southeast’s solar energy market and to network and do business. SEIA supports other events similar to this one as well, advocating and bringing solar industries together, I came across this group when I was doing a research project on solar panels last year and have Kiely been following them since then. I’ve been working with solar panels for about five years now, and have been searching for solar advocacy groups to get involved with. This advocacy group has been a good stepping stone to finding different companies and professionals involved with solar energy. I have leamed about various places that | could potentially work when I graduate. Since SEIA has most energy policies posted on their website, as well as lots of information on how different solar systems work, I can keep up with most things going on in today’s industry. This could be particularly helpful to anyone else who is pursuing a career in solar energy, or even interested in solar panels in any way. I believe that global warming could be drastically reduced, and solar panels could be a major contribution to that. If the government gave more benefits for installing solar panels for residential and commercial use, it would provide more incentive for people to invest in solar panels. With more people investing in solar panels, we could produce our own energy and rely less on fossil fuels that currently generate most of our electricity. Following SEIA is one step towards getting people to realize that global warming isa serious ise and that it should be iva closer attention to. Telling more people about solar energy and continuing to get involved with related projects will keep me advocating for solar energy. | plan to own my own company ESS 82it Se ees, aks Me Ae in the near future, focusing on advocating for solar energy, as well as researching new ideas and designs for solar panels and implementing them residentially and commercially.
