5. Standard: Physical Education grade 2-Rhythmic Skills 1.17 Demonstrate a smooth
transition between even-beat locomotor skills and uneven-beat locomotor skills in response to
music or an external beat.
Language arts- grade 2- SL.2.46; L.2.1, 3, 6Write narratives in which they recount a wellelaborated event or short sequence of events, include details to describe actions, thoughts, and
feelings, use temporal words to signal event order, and provide a sense of closure
6. Materials: Boom box with music (for game), paper and pencil (for follow-up activity)
7. Description/Rules:
1. Actors (students) walk around the space, constantly changing the shapes of their bodies,
exploring unusual poses (the teacher will add instrumental music to help their
imagination)
2. The teacher at any point can call out Freeze! at which point all the actors freeze in their
current pose and must stay in their pose until teacher yells out unfreeze.
3. The actors will then turn to a fellow actor near them and take turns asking them to
Justify their pose. For instance, a kid posed with their arm raised high above their head
might be raising his hand in a classroom or playing basketball and just threw a 3
pointer.
4. It is the actors job to imagine a situation in which their pose makes sense.
5. After the actors justified their pose, unfreeze everyone and let them walk around again,
posing and contorting some more. Repeat!

8. Follow-up activities: Express yourself writing activity: The students will be given a scenario
such as playing soccer and they will write about how they will position their bodies to describe
in detail a soccer action.
9. Assessment:
1. Did the students effectively communicate their pose?
2. Were the students descriptive when explaining their pose?
3. Was the activity difficult for the students?
4. Did the students grasp the concept of using descriptive words?
