Today is significant in many ways, it was the day selected to start the mission of

destroying evil in this world. Many Hindu (mythological for westerners and history
for Indians) stories are not about stating facts but to evolve humans through
metaphors.
On the auspicious day of Sri Rama Navami Im sharing what struck me few weeks
back during a training session on Time Management. It was the second half of the
session where I was discussing the Getting Things Done model for effective time
management. The author of the model asks to calm down the monkey mind in us. It
struck me, of course we have a great metaphor about the Monkey Mind in our
own culture. If you notice, almost all mythological stories have the similar threads,
metaphors are universal no matter where you are from.
So, here is our Monkey God the almighty, the first comic strip of an Indian
superman was of Hanuman when I was studying in my 9 th grade. On the cover was
this all muscular, six packs - Hanuman flying away. Since then I wanted the same
ripped look.
Significance of Hanuman is known if you read Ramayana, I was always curious
about the symbolism behind the character in a story. Hanuman is not a random
character none are in Ramayana or Mahabharata, he is an expression and state of
mind.
There are many spiritual aspects to the symbolism of Bhakti, but today I will keep it
in the context of Self-awareness, that we are (or can become) Hanuman.
Hanuman
1. Hanuman can be very naughty,
very unstable jumping here and
there
2. Hanuman is son of Vayu (Air God)
3. Hanuman can fly anywhere
anytime
4. Hanuman gets all pumped up
with praise of his capabilities( he
was cursed to forget )
5. Hanuman was a great asset in
the war under the leadership of
Lord Rama

Your Mind
Your mind cant be stable the typical
monkey mind. Jumping from one
thought to the other.
Your breathing is the energy for your
thoughts in you.
Your mind is the fastest, it can circle the
whole of creation and come back in
nanoseconds.
Your mind also has self-doubt of its
capabilities.
Your mind can be your destroyer or your
savior. If you can lead your mind it can
be your asset.

Scientifically speaking, our reptilian brain (cerebellum) has animalistic attributes, it

is rigid and compulsive, like Monkey God was when he was young. When he met his
master (Lord Rama) he lost his ego and surrendered to his master.
Will you become master of your Mind? Yes, we all want to!
