BACU SO014 4104, Name: EDFD 112, Professional Term 5, 2016: Children at Risk Assessment Task 1 (30%) Short answer test: Critical response to child protection scenario Assessment task 1 requires you to complete a number of responses to the following questions about a scenario in relation to child protection. You should * Assume that you are a graduate teacher not a preservice teacher, * Answer every question; * Demonstrate understanding of key concepts; * Explain the reasons for your decisions, including any resources consulted. Choose one of the scenarios provided and answer the questions below. Please circle the case study you have chosen. CASE STUDY 1 Sally came to the school at the start of this year and is in your Grade 2 class. She is a quiet girl who rarely seems to speak in class and you've been concerned that her academic progress has been very slow. She tends to sit on her own in the classroom, and you've noticed her hygiene is not very good. You have never met her parents, and they did not come up to the school for the recent parent-teacher interviews. Then three students in your class come to you to tell you today that Sally has been stealing sandwiches from their bags. They say she’s been doing this for weeks, even though they have told her to stop. You have noticed Sally hanging around other kids’ bags when the bell rings for assembly in the mornin CASE STUDY Mark, aged 7, does not settle well in class. He does not sit still for very long and has fairly frequent loud or angry outbursts. Other children have said to you they don't like playing with him because he is ‘too rough’. One morning as the children re arriving at school, you notice Mark is by the school gate and pulling a smaller girs hair ~ so you move quickly to intervene. The school has a ‘no tolerance’ policy on fighting or rough behaviour, so you begin to walk with Mark back towards the Principal's office. On the way, you notice that he has some bad bruising on his left arm, and a deep scratch on his cheek. Looking more closely you see what you think may be dried blood in his hair. When you esk him about the bruising, he won't meet you in the eye and mumbles "It was nuthin’. | was just naughty.” Questions 1. Is any type of harm indicated for the child in the scenario?
