Lesson Plan format for Individual Lessons during the Block Practicum
LESSON Religion food in Jesus Time 1 DATE 18th May (Wednesday)

TIME: 40 minutes YEAR: 1&2

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
At the end of this lesson students will have the opportunity to demonstrate
their ability to:
1. Identify foods eaten during the time of Jesus and if they were for
special feasts/ occasions
2. Create a paper plate meal that is appropriate in the context.

STUDENTS PRIOR KNOWLEDGE:


Students have previously engaged in discussions regarding the time of Jesus:
- housing
- clothing
Have seen some food in the film in class.

LESSON PROCEDURE:
Motivation and Lesson Introduction:
What do you eat at special occasions?
What do you like to eat for breakfast/lunch/dinner?
Discuss foods in Jesus time
Bread, milk, honey, vegetables (beans, lentils, cucumbers, onions), meat was
a food only the rich ate, fish was popular, olives, melons, fig, pomegranate
Lesson Content:
Children will construct a paper plate of food that would have been consumed

in Jesus time
They can choose to create foods for upper, middle or lower class.
Lesson Conclusion:
Display plates on wall

ASSESSMENT/EVALUTION OF STUDENT LEARNING:


What students create on their paper plates will demonstrate their knowledge
and understanding of this concept.
