Teacher Observation
Name of teacher observed:___Miss Pall_3rd
grade__School_______HRE___
Subject of lesson___Reading_________Date_2/4/16____Time_2 pm____
1. What were the goals and objectives of the lesson? How did you
know what they were?
Miss pall and the students went over the story they were reading
and finished the chapter book. They discussed what they
thought the ending was going to be and made predictions on
what was going to happen. This was the objective of Miss Palls
lesson, to create students that were active thinkers and readers.
2. How did the teacher begin the lesson? (Review of previous
material, motivational activity, etc.) Explain.
She began by recalling what they had read in the book
previously. They talked about where they had left off and then
we went to the floor and began reading the last chapter of the
book.

3. Describe the activities used in the lesson in order.

Recall what we had previously read in the book
Move to the floor and read aloud the ending chapter
Stop at different paragraphs to make predictions/discuss
Finish book, talk about what happened
Go back to seats a create a hand over the whole book
4. Describe the teachers use of time. (How much time was used
for each part of the lesson?)
The teacher allotted different amounts of time on different parts
of the lesson. The intro was shorter than normally my regular
cadet teacher, Mrs. Wilderson, spends on it, but probably
because 3rd grades can receive instruction and comprehend it
faster than kindergarteners can.
5. Describe the teachers classroom management /discipline style.

The teacher allows an open style of communication and

discussion. From what I saw during this lesson, the child will stop
with one command of stop. There is no clip chart needed like
in kindergarten.
6. How does this teacher encourage students to achieve?
She talks to them with respect and gets excited about what they
are reading with them. I can tell she wants them to love learning
and coming to school each day.

7. What does this teacher do that is unique?

I thought it was unique how she would randomly call on students
to participate in the reading when we were discussing what
happened in the book.
8. What ideas did you pick up on from observing this teacher that
you could use?
I thought it was cool how she sits on the floor and how she randomly calls on
students to participate in the group discussion of the book. The whole class is
incorporated into the discussion and that is something I want to do with my own
class someday.
