Reflection paper

NSTP 2 (LTS 2)

Without community service, we would not have a strong quality of life. Its important to the
person who serves as well as the recipient. Its the way in which we ourselves grow and develop.

Literacy Training Service (LTS) is a program designed to train us to teach literacy and numeracy
skills to school children, out-of-school youths and other segment of the community that needed our
service. Due to the calendar shift, we are not able to teach school children. Instead, we shared our
knowledge to the non-working mothers of Brgy. Sto. Domingo, Bay last Monday, May 25, 2015. This is
one of the most unforgettable experiences for me.
On our church, I handle young students every summer so I have an experience in teaching.
However, our community service is different. Im not sure if Im able to teach mothers. I admit that Im
not good in teaching. Im afraid that my recipients will not listen because Im not skilled. But our
community service taught me some things. I learned that teaching excellently and skilfully is not the true
essence of teaching because we are not teaching just to impress them. We are teaching because we want to
help them. I realized that the things we shared for their development is more important.
Our group taught about non-biodegradables. We demonstrated how to make a broom from plastic
bottles. At first, Im nervous while demonstrating. But after seeing that they are interested to learn and
that they are participating, all I want to do is to share and all I want to do is to keep going. Its like what
the quote says, its a win to win situation. We helped our recipients and at the same time, we developed

ourselves. It also offered an opportunity to enhance camaraderie and bond between my group mates, the
whole class and the mothers. Im grateful that I became a part of these community service; a service that
upgrades life into a strong quality of life.
Honestly, I didnt expect the community service to be fun and fruitful. I enjoyed teaching! I hope
my service will not end here. I hope they are able to use what we taught them. I hope they will apply
everything, not only for themselves but for the whole community.
