Dear Nurse Recruiter, I am writing to express my interest in serving as a RN at your facility. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Shenandoah University Eleanor Wade Custer School of Nursing. I believe my education, relevant experience, and values will be a strong fit for this position. Please accept my credentials for your review. For my fifth semester preceptorship, I was placed in the NICU at Winchester Medical Center. With guidance from my preceptor, I was able to complete assessments, administer medications, administer feedings, and perform IV therapy. For example, I cared for a 35-week-old neonate who was born early due to decreased fetal movement. The neonate had difficulty maintaining his blood sugar. My preceptor and I performed all of his care including monitored his blood sugar, communicated with the neonatologist, and implemented the new orders when changed. We also were able to comfort the parents during this difficult time. This has allowed me to increase my nursing skills. In addition, I am a certified nursing assistant. I gained experience in a long-term care facility as well as in home health care. For example, I cared for an elderly client in the home who was diagnosed with colon cancer. A few months after I became his caretaker, hospice was introduced into the home as well. I performed activities of daily living, monitored his self-medication administration, and prepared his meals. Most importantly I was there to listen and comfort when things were tough. As the cancer progressed the client experienced difficulty breathing, his pain increased tremendously, and he became wheelchair bound. On several occasions the client and I spent time outside in his personal garden. With a big smile on his face he would tell me, Oh the sun feels so good on my skin! This made me happy and I know I made a difference in his life. One of my greatest accomplishments at Shenandoah University was being inducted into Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. I am also an active member of Student Nurses Association, as well as National Student Nurses Association. These organizations have allowed me to grow professional with the mentorship of registered nurses. It would be an honor and privilege to join your healthcare team. I look forward to speaking with you about this wonderful opportunity. I can be reached at 540.905.0204 or dprice11@su.edu. Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely, Devon Price
