Classroom Management Practices

Practice

Theory
A theorist I can link this
practice to is Canter. I
believe this resembles
his theory of Assertive
Discipline. The reason I
believe this practice is
linked to his theory is
because the purpose of
this practice and theory
are to get students to
choose to conduct
themselves properly.

Call Backs

Another theorist I can

link this practice to is
Morrish. The theory this
practice resembles is
Real Discipline. In this
theory, teacher are
supposed to set rules for
conduct in the school
environment and they
need to make sure their
procedures become very
efficient routines.
This practice is effective
because the teacher
takes charge and is
assertive and reminds
students how they should
be behaving and the task
they should be working
on. Teachers use these
call backs to get their
students attention and to
refocus them.

Application

Example:

Teacher: Hocus Pocus

Students: everyone
focus!
Teacher: Class Class
Students: yes yes!
I plan to use this practice
in my classroom. I will
modify it by having
students use some sort
of physical response
(TPR) when answering
back. I think this would
make this practice more
effective because it will
keep all students
engaged. It could also
work for students who
are hard of hearing.

teachers use some sort

I learned this practice
from Rick Morris. Morris
has many effective
classroom management
strategies. Noise makers
are effective because
they are unfamiliar sound
that get students
attention. I have seen
teachers use squeaky
toys as the noise maker.
When students hear the
noise the put their hands
on their head and eyes

I will us this practice in

on the teachers. This

allows the teacher to
have all of the students
attention and keep all of
their students engaged.
Behavior
A theorist I can link this
practice to is Canter. I
believe this resembles
his theory of Assertive
Discipline. The reason I
believe this practice is
linked to his theory is
because the purpose of
this practice and theory
are to get students to
choose to conduct
themselves properly.
Another theorist I can
link this practice to is
Glasser. The purpose of
his theory is that
students are provided
with a classroom
environment and
curriculum that
motivates students and
reduces inappropriate
behavior. Having
behavior charts, using
ClassDojo, and giving
students group and
individual points, are all
way that teacher can
motiviate students to
stay on task and reduce
inappropriate. A behavior
chart can reduce
inappropriate behavior
because students are
aware that there are
rewards or consequences
for every color on the
chart.

Examples:
Table Points
Behavior Charts (Rick
Morris)
Positive
Reinforcement
Checkbooks
Raffle Points
ClassDojo
I plan on using this
practice in my future
class. I like the idea of
keeping students
accountable for their
actions and also being
able to keep track of
their behavior.

Glassers theory helps

students make
appropriate behavioral
choice that lead
ultimately to personal
success. When a teacher
uses table points, they
are rewarding student for
being on task which is
helping students achieve
personal success.
I learned many new
effective classroom
management strategies
from Rick Morris. One of
those being the use of
behavior charts to
monitor students
behavior.

&
Routines

I will also use this

practice in my future
classroom. I believe that
when students have
routines, students
behave better because
they have structure in
their class.

appropriate behavioral
choices that lead
ultimately to personal
success. Playing music
to get students to
transition is effective
because it allows
students to have
routines, which allows for
a safe environment. The
more the students know
the routine the more the
classrooms behavior is
managed. This allows
students to be on task
and hopefully lead to
personal success.
