Conversation Hearts
Standing behind him, Michaelis saw with a shock that he was looking at the eyes of
Doctor TJ Eckleburg, which had just emerged, pale and enormous, from the dissolving
night,
God sees everything, repeated Wilson (Fitzgerald 159-160)
Above the gray land and the spasms of bleak dust which drift endlessly over it, you
perceive, after a moment, the eyes of Dr. T.J. Eckleburg are blue and Gigantic -- Their
retinas are one yard high. They look out of no face, but, instead from an enormous
yellow spectacles which pass over a nonexistent nose (Fitzgerald 23).
TJ Eckleburg has blue eyes surrounded by yellow frames. The message that he yellow
and blue heart conveys is I got my eye on you, displaying the effect of TJ Eckleburg on
WIlson. Wilson thinks TJ is God watching him and judging him.
We chose the color white because Daisy is always described with white color
imagery, such as her white blouse, white powder, and her old white car.
o They were both in white, and their dresses were rippling and
fluttering as if they had just been blown back in after a short
flight around the house. (Fitzgerald 8)
o She dressed in white and had a white roadster. (Fitzgerald 74)
Daisy sends Itl be ok to Tom because she is scared and confused with the
accident and Myrtles death. With this sentiment they move on with their
lives, leaving Gatsby behind.
o Daisy and Tom were sitting opposite each other at the kitchen
table, with a plate of cold fried chicken between them and two
bottles of ale. (Fitzgerald 145)
o But she and Tom had gone away early that afternoon, and taken
baggage with them. (Fitzgerald 164).
