Speech

I stared at the window, watching the rain slowly trickle down. We sat in silence. My
parents and I were driving from Indianapolis to Kansas City. We had been driving for 3 hours
and not a sound was made, but we talked. I had been living for 11 years, I never made a sound,
but I communicated. In fact, no one had spoken in 13 years, when law 6X94AB1 was passed,
right at the beginning of 2075. The richest of the rich hadn't spoken in 20 years when the Z1 was
first introduced. The Z1 is a system composed of a computer chip and a phone. The computer
chip gets placed in your brain and translates your thoughts to the phone, and sends it to whoever
to you needed to speak to. I had only heard one person speak before. An old man on television.
His execution was nationally broadcasted. He had been charged with treason for trying to form a
revolt against the government as a result of law 6X94AB1. The government hung him the old
way, in the middle of the Kansas City, as an example. Washington had been burned down after
the outrage of the passing of law 6X94AB1. Kansas City was made the new Capitol. He was
alive in the 20th century! He was alive when they invented the first iPhone! He was alive when
people got their news from news reporters! He got to go out to dinner with old friends to (talk)
about what they did that day! How unbelievable it is to think that people actually used to speak!

People don't choose to not speak anymore. It's not like we can speak but are afraid of
getting killed in front of the nation. The Z1 computer chip cuts off any abilities of the vocal cords
to work. (No one) speaks. My dad has taken a job in the Capitol to help develop the Z2. The Z2
will transfer thoughts from one person directly to the thoughts of others, no reading involved.
