Curriculum and Instruction Northernlowa January 9, 2016 ‘To Whom It May Concern: Tam writing this letter on behalf of David Knapp, a student I have come to know well in my Methods of Teaching Early Literacy class and my Methods of Teaching Content Literacy in the Intermediate Grades class. David will graduate from UNI in May 2016 with a double major in psychology and clementary education for K-6 with a focus on special education and math. He has asked me to write this letter of recommendation for him as he epplies for a teaching position in an elementary school. During his fall semester in Methods of Barly Literacy class David had an experience tutoring a first agrade student in literacy who seemed to not have a lot of prior reading experiences. He really looked forward to these tutoring sessions as he loves helping children have positive emergent literacy experiences. He was always well prepared and developed wonderful lesson plans involving reading and writing, David was very energetic and was detailed oriented. Future instruction was informed based on David's reflective practices fiom assessments and lessons taught. His first grade student benefitted greatly from David's tutoring and loved working with his UNI Reading Buddy while ‘improving in his literacy development. It was evident that a strong relationship had been built between the first grade student and his UNI teacher. David is extremely knowledgeable in literacy as evidenced by his participation in class discussions, projects, and presentations. His organizational skills are superb, and he was always consistently well prepared for class. He settles for nothing less than top quality work and is extremely conscientious and thorough in all that he does. He was always in class and always on time. David has a strona work ethic. He was willing to share ideas and lessons not only within a small group but also with the entire class. David is interested in learning new information and is gathering ideas and many children’s books for his fiature classroom David exhibits many teacher dispositions such as flexibility, adaptability, and willingness to take initiatives. As a classroom teacher David will communicate clearly and collaborate enthusiastically to reach his students and embrace teachable moments in instruction. David has outstanding technology skills and embraces its use in the classroom. It is my pleasure to recommend David Knapp for an elementary classroom teaching position or a special education teaching position. David is very passionate in all that he.does and has a friendly, responsible caring personality. He will make positive contributions in the lives of his future students, Ifyou need any additional information, please contact me at 319-929-3330 or naney.white@uni.cdu.
