Project SERVE Proposal
My senior project will be organizing a 5K/10K run in conjunction with the 4-H
fundraiser, ChickenQue. I am very involved in my local 4-H club, Liberty 4-H; Ive been a
member for six years. I participate in projects like Woodworking, Horses, Photography, and
Community Service. This year, I am on the Officer Team, and am also a Junior Teen Leader of
the Community Service project. I am passionate about 4-H because it educates kids about the
importance of agriculture in our society, the value of community service, and the responsibility
involved in raising an animal.
ChickenQue is the largest chicken barbeque west of the Mississippi, and is also the
largest fundraiser for 4-H in Sonoma County each year. This year, the theme of ChickenQue is
healthy living. To go along with this theme, the idea of the race was proposed. The race will be
run on the morning of the main ChickenQue event, the first Sunday in May. The event is held at
the Santa Rosa Fairgrounds, in the racing grandstand. There will be a number of planning
meetings leading up to the race, to communicate with the fairgrounds staff and organize logistics
of the race day, find sponsors, recruit volunteers, and plan the timeline of the race. My mentor
would be Lisa Jack, a member of the ChickenQue committee. Potential problems that I face are
finding a large number of participants for the race, so that money will be raised and people

participate in a healthy activity. The goal of this project would be to educate people about 4-H,
while encouraging participating in regular physical activity to maintain health. I value a healthy
lifestyle; I am an avid runner myself. Combining these two passionsrunning and 4-His a
perfect scenario for me to serve my community. The motto of 4-H is Head, Heart, Hands,
Health, and my project would involve all four of these essential life values.
