Speaker Support System

presentation
By Raymond Chu, Carl Ostrenga, Andrew
Bejean, and Vanessa Llontop

Design Team Information

Through our group introductions, we were

able to introduce ourselves to our
teammates and tell about our strengths and
weaknesses.

Raymond
Hello My Name is Raymond Chu and
I am the group leader, Im sure you
guys don't know who I am, I come
from Taiwan and I am decent on
CAD, Blue will be my Typing color. I
am usually on the computer on
weekdays and usually on weekends,
I'm also a junior.

Carl
Hello, my name is Carl Ostrenga and
I am a freshmen here at rm in the
country of Romania. I am pretty good
at CAD, pink will be my color, and I
am awesome. I usually be at home
from 2:50 and to 11:00. I am never
far from the computer somewhere so
that will be fine.

Andy
Hey, my name is Andrew Bejean and
I am a freshman at RM coming from
Kazakhstan. I am pretty good at
CAD, I absolutely suck at drawing
and i'll be orange. I will usually be
pretty close to my computer so thats
fine.

Vanessa
Hi, my name is Vanessa Llontop. I
am a sophomore at RM. Green will
be my color. I come from the south
(don't worry about it.) I am decent at
CAD but drawing is my main
profession. I'm rarely on the
computer, but I can make an effort to
get on it just as much as you guys

The Problem
The teacher does not have sufficient space in the
classroom to utilize a set of quality speakers. One speaker
sits on the floor and one sits on top of a bookshelf, thus
occupying space that is needed for classroom activities and
storage. Also, the sound quality is poor due to the current
arrangement.

Design Brief
My Group chose to do the speaker support system
design brief, this design brief is to create a support
system for a classroom that can hold 2 quality speakers
and be able to mount them against a concrete wall

Constraints for the design brief

This design brief had many constraints like
1. The design must be ready for manufacturing in 4 weeks.
2. Each speaker is 12H x 9W x 9D.
3. Each speaker weighs 10 lbs.
4. The system must be able to fit in an 11x 8.5x
5.5 USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate Box for shipping
purposes (not including the speakers).
5. The system must weigh less than 20 lbs (not
including the weight of the speakers).
6. The support system must be mechanically fastened
to a concrete block wall (mechanical fasteners
provided by the clients).
7. The system must allow speakers to be adjusted by
tilting forward/backward and panning left/right.

Research Performed.
Most of us thought of speakers we had
seen or looked up pictures on the internet
and based our design on them
We googled images of speaker support
systems

Criteria & Winning Choice

To choose our winner we had a criteria where
we graded each others sketches and chose
who had the best one that fit the design brief.
Our group chose Carl's sketch as the winner
and that what our final design was, Carl's
sketch fit all the requirements.

Progression to the final design

My Team and I evaluated Carl's sketch and saw
that some essential parts were missing (ex.
Wall mount, tilting part) and then we built onto
Carl's idea, adding pieces using CAD and
changing some of them.
Each Group member was assigned with
different task.

Final Solution
All of our designs were basically the same
so there is not a single final design.

Future Changes
I would go back and make a drive constraint
for the connector to allow the speakers to be
positioned in the model.
I also would make a schedule for the google
doc to make the gantt chart easier

Skills learned
Most of us learned how to make gantt charts
and decision matrices
We also learned the difficulty involved in
working solely over the internet as opposed
to in person.
