INTRODUCTION
Hazard is a term associated with a substance that
is likelihood to cause an injury in a given
environment or situation .
Industrial hazard may be defined as any
condition produced by industries that may cause
injury or death to personnel or loss of product or
property .
Safety in simple terms means freedom from the
occurrence of risk or injury or loss .
Industrial safety refers to the protection of
workers from the danger of industrial accidents .

Most Industrial Hazards are due to:

Faulty

Inspection
Inability of Employee
Poor Discipline
Lack of Concentration
Unsafe Practice
Mental & Physical Unfitness for job
Faulty Equipment & improper working
conditions
Improper training regarding safety aspects

TYPES OF INDUSTRIAL
HAZARDS
Chemical Hazards
Electrical Hazards
Mechanical Hazards
Environmental Hazards
Biological Hazards

MECHINICAL HAZARDS
Mechanical hazards are those associated
with power driven machine weather
automated or manually operated machines
driven by hydraulic or electrical power

MECHANICAL INJURIES
The types of injuries results
are cutting , tearing , shearing , crushing ,
breaking , straining or puncturing .

MAIN LOCATIONS
Tools or apparatus have three locations
where mechanical hazards can exist:
The point of operation is where the action is
taking place.
The point of power transmission is where the
applied
energy is converted to work.
The area of moving parts involves any actions
between the point of operation and the point
of power transmission.

APPARATUS & TOOL THAT

ROTATES
Rotating
apparatus or tools can be dangerous
because they can catch and twist a students
clothing, hair, or jewelry and can cause
serious damage to the student.
drill bits
gears in machines
centrifuge rotors
governors for demonstrating centrifugal force
electric motor shafts
projections (nuts, set screws, nicks, and
abrasions) from rotating parts

Unexpected Release of
Stored Mechanical
Energy
Sudden and un expected extension of spring
due to stored energy can cause harm.

Material handling

Either wo handle material manually or

automatically if Weight drops or slippage it
will cause hazards.

10

MACHINE OPERATIONS
If

machine operations are not performed

carefully then it
will cause the worker may the chips flew away
into the
eyes of worker or a man standing near
Rotating machine/shaft

11

SHARP TOOLS
Sharp tools such as Blades, Saws, Sharp edges
etc. can cause hazards.

IN-RUNNING PIN POINTS

Controls
If

hazard is not essential to the

experiment or project, eliminate it
altogether or engineer it out
If it is not possible to eliminate the
hazard, guard it
If it is not possible to guard it, must rely
on training and personal protective
equipment
