WELCOME

GABBRO
Coarse-grained plutonic igneous rocks.
COMPOSITION
Composed mainly of Plagioclase feldspar of lime
soda.
Other minerals such as augite, hornblende, olivine,
biotite and iron oxides are present.
TEXTURE
Variable , generally coarse to medium grained.
COLOUR
Black or dark green in colour.
TYPES
Norite, Anorthosite, Eucrite, Troctolite, Dunite.

OCCURENCE
Found in thick lava flows and in deep
plutons.
USES
Used to make cementery markers,
kitchen counter tops , floor tiles etc.

DOLERITES
Igneous rocks formed as shallow sills & dykes.
They are equivalents of gabbros of plutonic
origin & basalts of volcanic origin.
COMPOSITION
Calcic plagioclase.
Dark minerals like augite, olivine & iron oxides.
TEXTURE
Ophitic & Porphyritic are quite common.
Mostly it is medium to fine grained rocks.
COLOUR
Dark grey or black with greenish shades.

OCCURENCE
Occured in many places
associated with magmatic activity.
USES
Used as crushed stone,
ornamental stone etc.

PERIDOTITES
It is the ultra-mafic igneous rocks, rich in ferro
magnesium mineral olivine.
COMPOSITION
(Mg,Fe)SiO4
Minor minerals such as plagioclase, garnet,
amphibole and phylogopite are present.
TEXTURE
They are generally massive & coarse grained.
VARIETIES
Hornblende, Pyroxene, Kimberlite & Dunite
peridotite.

OCCURENCE
Occur as fragments carried by magma from
mantle.
Also found in lunar breccias
USES
Building stones, Machines & Tools ,
Decorations , Jewellery etc.
