Science
Boston International School

Biblical Principle

Being sensitive to Gods voice.

Revelation 14:2 King James Bible
And I heard a voice from heaven, as
the voice of many waters, and as the
voice of a great thunder: and I heard
the voice of harpers harping with their
harps.

LEARNING OBJECTIVE
Identify how sound travels and its
characteristics according to its
vibration and intensity.

SOUND
Sounds waves are made of vibrations, sound
waves can travel through gases, solid, and
liquids. When sound waves reach your ear,
your eardrum vibrates, enabling you to hear
the sound.

Vocabulary
Vibration: A series of back and forth movements.
Loudness: The amount of energy a sound has.
Pitch: The highness or lowness of a sound.

Activity in class
Read the book on pages 584 - 586. Then answer the
questions.
1.What does pitch describe about a sound?
2.Could you hear under water?
3.How does a harp make sound?
4.If sound goes through the air by causing the air to
vibrate, how do you think it goes through a solid or
liquid?

HOMEWORK:
Give examples of sounds with high and low pitch.
Bring materials for the project.
Materials:
Empty paper towel roll
Dried rice and beans
Stapler
Gravel
Masking tape

Hands on work: Making a phone

Students will make a phone using two empty glasses
and a long string
Activity in class
Draw a picture of the activity and write the conclusions
about how solid can vibrate and transmit sound.

PROJECT :
Students will make
their own maraca.
