wentbackonhisjourney.

pursuehisPersonalLegendandthroughouthisjourneyhelearnsfromdifferentpeopleandtakes
risksalongtheway.
Santiagolearnsmanylifelessonstaughtbypeoplethatimpactedhislife.Butother
lessonstaughtbyhimself.Theoldkingtaughthimmanythings.Themostimportantonewasthe
PersonalLegendteaching.HetaughttheboythataPersonalLegendwas.Theboydidntknow
whatapersonsPersonalLegendwas.ITswhatyoualwayswantedtoaccomplish(Coelho
21).LearningwhataPersonalLegendwasveryimportantbecausebyknowingthatSantiago
madethedecisiontogorealizehisPersonalLegend.Allofthatledtohimgoingonhisjourney
tofindhistreasure.Anotherlifelessonhelearnedwastonottrusteveryone.Whentheguythat
wassupposedlySantiago'sfriendrobbedSantiagohestartedtonottrusteveryone.ButnowIm
sadandalone.Imgoingtobecomebitteranddistrustfulofpeoplebecauseonepersonbetrayed
me(39).Santiagowasmad.Hethoughtthateverythingwaseasy.Butbythishelearnedtonot
trusteveryone.HelearnedtospeakthelanguageoftheWorld.Thatchangedhislifeforthe

better.HewentfrombeingashepherdtobecominganAlchemist.HecouldseetheWorld
differently.Buttheboytoldhimaboutthehawks:thathehadbeenwatchingtheirflightand
hadsuddenlyfelthimselftohaveplungedtotheSouloftheWorld(101).Theboyhadseen
somethingbeyondwhatitreallywas.Forotherpeopleitmayhavebeenjusttwohawksfighting.
ButSantiagosawbeyondthatandsawthatanarmywascoming.Thishelpedhimthroughouthis
journeybecausehecouldheartheWorldtellinghiadvice.Bylearningeverythinghedid
throughouthisjourney,Santiagobecameadifferentperson.
Santiagohadtotakerisksalongtheway.Hetooksomethatresultedgoodandothersthat
resultedbad.Santiagotooktheriskoftrustingthehejusthadmet.Itdidnotgowellbecausethe
guystoleSantiagosmoney.Butthenhetookanotherriskthatresultedgood.Hetooktheriskof
becomingthewind.Ifhefailedintransformingintothewindhewouldbekilled.Ifhecantdo
so,wehumblyofferyouourlives,forthehonorofyourtribe.Santiagotookthatrisk.Heknew
thatifhecouldntdoithewoulddie.Hewasscaredbutstilltried.Thisriskresultedgood
becauseattheendhetransformedhimselfintothewind.Besidesthathealsotalkedtodesert,to
thewin,tothesun,andtotheandthatcreatedall.Helearnedfromthatrisk.Ifhehadnttakenit
hewouldhaveneverlearnedhowtoconverthimselfintothewind.
TherewerealsoobstaclesinSantiagoslife.OneofthemwasFatima.Shewasan
obstaclebecauseshewasstoppinghimfromgoingtothepyramids.Fatimawasmoreimportant
thanhistreasure(95).SantiagowaswillingtostayforFatimainsteadofgoingtofindhis
treasure.ShewasmoreimportanttohimthangoingtopursuehisPersonalLegend.Thiswasbad
becauseSantiagohadcometopursuehisPersonalLegendnottogetmarried.Hehadtogo

achieveit.ButthiswasntabadobstaclebecauseFatimaencouragedhimtogoafterhisdream.

treasure.
