Homework 2 Due Friday May 20th

For all problems round component values to the nearest standard value that keeps your design
within the specified requirements. On you calculations page I expect to see your calculations for
all problems and circuits drawn for problem 2 and 4. Problem 2 and 4 should be labeled
correctly.
* Keep in mind that 120V is an RMS value and will need to be changed to VP value.
** Dont forget to subtract the proper number of diode drops across the diode bridge.
*** Dont forget to circle and label your answers on your calculations page.
1. For the Circuit in Figure 1, = 9.5, Assume a diode drop of 0.7V, C1 should be an
electrolytic capacitor. determine:
a. V1 Vp =
VpSec =
VOUT Bridge =
b. With RL = 470 Determine C1 such that VRipple is no more than:
i. 1 Vp
C1Standard Value =
ii. 0.25 Vp
C1Standard Value =
iii. 0.05 Vp

2. For the Circuit in Figure 1, Design a filtered full wave rectifier for a 200 load, such that
VM = 12V, C1 is to be rounded to the nearest standard value the VR is no more than
.025Vp. Assume a diode drop of 0.7V. Draw the circuit on your calculation page and
label components correctly. (Hint: Work backwards)
