Overstimulation
Breaks in Routine
If a child usually naps at 12:30 everyday, and this is not followed through, this could cause the
child to be overtired.
Noise
What is it?- a sound, especially one that is loud or unpleasant or that causes
disturbance.
Example of when this happens?- children will cover their ears when a smoke
alarm goes off or when an ambulance drives by with the siren on some
children will cringe.
What can happen as a result of this cause?- the children may raise their voice
or yell, the result will be chaos.
Waiting Time
What is it?-a waiting time is when you have to wait a certain period of time, it
could be for a short or long period of time.
Example of when this happens?-if they have to wait for a story for a long time
they could start hitting and pushing.
What can happen as a result of this cause?-if the children are actively
involved in self-selected activities, it will reduce waiting time and resulting
behavior problems.
Frustration
If a child is playing with a toy that they cant figure out because the age range is not
appropriate, they will feel discouraged and upset.
This can cause anger which may cause the child to hit, punch, push, kick, or
bite.
