Good morning,
BC Girl Guides is already planning Provincial selection Camps for 2015
Christine Constable submitted a proposal for 3rd Year Guides & Pathfinder to
paddle the Bowron Canoe Circuit.
Province loved the idea. It was approved and has a tentative date of Aug 4 - 12,
2015 (including a day in Quesnel at either end)
As Camp Advisors, I think it is important that we provide the Rivers North Area
girls with the skills/experience required to apply for this camp.
Here's what I think we could offer to the girls & Guiders in our communities.

Introduction to Lake Canoeing (day event or over a few evenings)

This introduction course would take canoeists with no or little canoeing experience and provide
them with the skills and confidence to canoe on lakes. The course will include an overview and
practice of basic canoe strokes and rescue techniques.

Basic Tandem Paddler Certificate - 8 hour course (over a weekend or turned into a canoe
camp)
Skills: Paddling in a straight line, turns, docking, beaching, and keep up right
Strokes: Forward, Reverse,"J" , Sweep, Draw, and Pry; What to do if your canoe does over: T
rescue or called Canoe over Canoe.

Topic: Paddles, styles of paddles and sizing, PFDs (Personal Flotation Devices (life jacket))
and sizing, dry equipment and what you need to bring for safety paddling; packing for a trip, and
how to work together; Trim and balance of a canoe.

If anyone has questions or needs help planning or contacting local paddle companies
(Third Party Provider) let me know. Also don't be afraid to see if there is a Guider
in your District who would love to plan a canoe training or canoe camp.
Please keep me informed. I want to support & promote your activity/camp within
the Area.
