WORLD RECORDS (Chart)--The World Records chart has information for each record for every

shape and size variation of the Rubiks Cube. The chart includes the people who achieved each
world record, their time and the date they achieved it. I chose to do a chart in my project
because it's an easy-to-understand way of getting accurate information.

SIDES AND MOVEMENT (Blog Post)-- My original plan for this piece was to write out a tutorial
on how to solve the cube. However, explaining how to solve the whole puzzle would take
several pages and would be too long. I settled on just doing a post on explaining the sides and
movement of the cube. This turned out to be useful because I was able to use it in a later piece
to demonstrate how to do some cool patterns.

MIND OF A SPEEDCUBER (Stream of Consciousness)--I wrote this piece out I and I wrote as if
I had broken the world record for solving the Rubiks cube. I tried to describe what I thought I
would have been feeling while I was solving it. I chose this genre because it's extremely exciting
when someone breaks the world record and I wanted to put a voice there to make it to make the
reader feel the excitement. I think that it's a natural way of writing for me and I just didn't stop
writing. I think it affected my writing in a positive way.

PERMUTATIONS (Poem)--I felt like a poem would work best for this piece because I wanted
short little snippets of information. I felt like a poem was a good way of expressing the
information in the way I feel when I read math. This piece described the mathematics of the
cube and why you can orient the cube into so many positions. A poem works for this because
describing the mathematics of the cube is rhythmic like a poem.

METHODS OF LEARNING (Vignette)-- In this piece I chose to do a vignette because I had a

personal life experience as a part of it. I felt the personal experience would enhance the piece

and show that this method actually does work. The personal experience was the research for
this piece. I learned how powerful this method is when my dad taught me and I saw how
creative I could get with these cubes, as opposed to what my friends did, which was looking it
up on YouTube. Compared to me, my friends werent nearly as creative and thoughtful with the
cube and they relied on someone else to do it for them.

SHAPES AND SIZES (Visual)--A lot of people think that the 3 x 3 traditional Rubik's Cube is the
only one. However, others have been invented since 1974 but none of them were invented by
Rubik. When he invented Rubik's Cube it sort of inspired other people to start making bigger
and better ones but they still named them a Rubiks cube in his honor. I also wanted to use this
visual to show that there are different shapes for the cube and different sizes as well. People
have invented bigger versions of the traditional 3 x 3 Rubik's Cube. There is the 4 x 4, the 5 x 5
and it goes all the way up to 17 x 17. There are not only cubes, there are also other shapes
like octahedrons and dodecahedrons and even a rectangular prism. I figured out that these kind
of cubes existed when my sister got me a 4x4 Rubik's Cube for my birthday and I wondered if
there were even bigger ones. I searched for bigger ones and they did exist and then I thought
that maybe they werent the only shape and so I searched for other shapes and found those as
well.

PATTERNS (Poem)-- I wanted to collect some patterns for my project but didn't realize I needed
them all to be in poem format until I had all the algorithms down. When I put them in a poem
format I included pictures so the reader could see if it was right or wrong when trying to solve
the pattern. For my research for this poem I looked up images for different cube patterns and
then I solved a cube to that point so that it matched the image. That gave me the algorithm to
use in the poem.

INVENTION OF THE PUZZLE (Diary Entry)--Really, the only reason I chose the diary entry that
is because Ms. Bartz suggested that I do it. I liked the suggestion and since some of my
research was about how Erno Rubik invented the cube, I thought that it would be perfect to
create a diary entry from his perspective.

RISE TO FAME (Screenplay)--I have to be be frank. This was also Ms. Batzs idea. She was
the one who suggested that I do the screenplay about kids getting their first Rubiks Cube. I set
the scene in downtown New York because of the toy store FAO Schwarz. Because it is a
screenplay and since plays and movies always have a problem, I thought Id give it a plot twist
by having the store run out of Rubiks Cubes. I didnt research much for this piece as this was
more creativity-based and something that might actually occur.

MY LIFE AS A CUBER (Memoir)--The memoir was my favorite piece because I got to share a
what I have done in solving the Rubiks Cube and other puzzles. I felt like this was necessary in
my project because I didnt want all research, I also wanted something to show that I once didnt
know how to solve the cube. Since it was a personal experience, I didnt do any research for
this piece.
