Iam pleased to be able to write a letter of recommendation for Tylin, a student of mine here at Glencoe
High School. She has a great deal to contribute to society, and to the local community in which she
resides, and I am confident she will make a great addition to any university. I would place her in the top
10% of our student body in academics, activities, and contribution to community.
To whom it may concer,
Tylin isa strong academic performer, stronger than her GPA might indicate, What I respect most about
‘Tylin academically is that she takes the more difficult courses at our school, even #f.itmeans-a-drop in
grade or cumulative GPA. If you look at her transcript, you will see “accelerated” this, and “AP” that.
Currently she is taking my AP Environmental Science class, and earning a B, and these are challenging
courses, and she fares quite well in them, I have no doubt that Tylin could steer clear of these higher-
level, (arguably college-level) classes, and have a better GPA, but she consciously chooses not to do that.
And that’s a rare student indeed. She is genuinely interested in what she can learn, and she chooses rigor
over grades.
Secondly, Tylin is active in our school clubs program. She helped to start the Feminism Club here, and is
president this year. The club seeks to promote fairness for women in our society, and at school. In
hearing her speak about the club and her concerns with the role and position of women in our work force,
she has a heart for the topic. One of the units we study in AP Environmental Science relates to the impact
of educated women around the globe on the health of the planet ~ and Tylin will surely have some words
of wisdom for us when this subject rolls around in the Spring.
Finally, Tylin wants to contribute to her community and society at large through a career in the health
care or medical rescarch field. She shows maturity and dedication in her planning for this by enrolling in
as many science classes as she can take. For broader experience she was involved in conducting vision
screenings for members of the community as part of her Health Sciences curriculum, and I know that she
quite enjoyed that work.
Please contact me further if you have questions regarding my view of Tylin. I would happily speak
further on her behalf.
‘Thank you,
Richard Stanley
