Back Channeling Notes

Outer circle participants are observing the fishbowl and commenting upon it.
A backchannel is a discussion about an event. Backchanneling is when
participants in a class silently communicate, while other material is being
presented (in this case, the Socratic Seminar). It is non-disruptive and
collaborative, and will be a second channel of conversation occurring
simultaneously as Backchannel participants observe and analyze the
seminar. In the Backchannel, participants may summarize what they are
hearing, ask clarifying questions, offer suggestions, and share relevant
resources through dialogue with each other. They are commentators.
Directions: Focus on your assigned partner and take notes on his/her
performance during the Socratic Seminar. This can include your partners
comments, questions, and behavior.
