DESCRIPTION:(100words)
Thegeneralagesofmyclass(grade3/4)arebetweentheagesof910yearsold.
Adisruptionhappenedwiththeothergrade3/4classroom(couldhearitbecauseofhowclose
theroomsareandhowtheyarejoined).
Ayoungboyintheotherclasshasepilepsyandhadaseizurewhilstinhisclassroom.This
particularseizurelastedforroughly15minutes.Itmanagedtodisruptthelearningthatwas
takingplaceinboththe3/4classrooms.

INTERPRETATION:(228words)
Thisparticulareventwascriticalforfutureexperience.Inmypastplacements,althoughstudents
hadparticularsetbacks,IwasneveraroundorhadheardofsomethinghappeningwhilstIwason
placement(inregardstoepilepsy).Asthishappenedduringmyreadinglesson,Ihadtomaintain
controloverthegroupsIwaslookingafter.Ifeltthattheteacherintheclassroom(bothmyST
andtheotherteacherintheotherclassroom)hadagreatknowledge,orwereatleast
comfortablewithhandlingtheeffectsfromtheseizure,astheattitudetowardspeoplewith
epilepsyareinfluencedbythedegreeofknowledgeofthecondition(Shiu,2004).Theyhadto
remaincalmandfocussedontheirworkwhilsttheteachersassistedtheboy.Thiseventprepared
meincasesomethinglikethiswastohappeninthefutureduringmyownclasstimewithmyown
class.Thisimpactedthestudentshowever,astheywereworriedabouttheirfriend(eventhough
thishashappenedbefore).Whatwasinterestingaboutthisdisruptionwashowsomethingthat
happenedintheotherclassroomcouldaffectmyclassthewayitdid.Theboywhohadthe
seizurewasaclosefriendtomanyofthestudentswithinmyclassroom,andduetothepanicof
theotherstudentswhowitnessedit,myclassreactedtheonlywaytheyknewhow.

OUTCOME:(100)
Becauseofthisparticularevent,Iwillbebetterpreparedandifsomethinglikethis(amajor
distraction)weretohappeninmyclassroom,Iwouldknowhowtobepreparedinorderto
regaincontroloftheclassroomandensurethattheyarecalmandfocussed,trustingthatthe
teachersarehandlingthesituation.TheonlythingIwouldbeabletodoistoseehowteachers
respondtosituationslikethis,andhopethatIwillbeaspreparedastheyaretofaceachallenge
likethisinmyclassroom.Itissomethingthateachteachermustbepreparedtodealwithincase
iteveroccurred.
