Great Gatsby Book/Movie Analysis

While there are a couple differences when relating the introduction of the valley of
ashes and George and myrtle in the book and movie, for the most part the two
different mediums tell the same story. In the book we are told about Doctor T.J
Eckleburgs blue and gigantic eyes and how they watch over solemnly over the ash
filled pit. The same mood is created in the movie and we are shown a huge billboard
of only eyes that watches quietly over the smog filled area. However, while the
introduction of George and his conversation with Tom are almost identical in both
works, the description of Myrtle is where the two differ. The book portrays the
woman as hefty, unattractive, and sneaky. While she is portrayed as sneaky in the
movie, she actually does seem relatively attractive and is wearing revealing clothing.
She seems a lot more appealing in the movie than is portrayed in the book.
Disregarding this difference the two scenes are almost identical in their content and
the message they are trying to convey.
