Paragraphs 1-2
The first paragraphs in the novel "To Kill A Mockingbird", by Harper Lee, is significant
because it introduces the main characters and the main goal in the story. The second paragraph
foreshadows an event in the story that obviously had a large impact on the lives of Jem and
Scout. The event is not directly named but it can be inferred that it is very bad.

These paragraphs on the first page introduce the main characters and tell some of the
events that will occur later in the story. For example we learn that Jem will break his arm in an
accident that will leave him unable to play football. We also learn that there is a person named
Dill that creates the idea to lure a man named Boo Radley out. These two paragraphs do not
make much sense as they filled with characters and events we do not know of but we expect to
be explained later in the book.
