Most of the city was designed by Mnesicles. Not much is known about
Mnesicles but what we know is that he was a Greek architecture. One of
Mnesicles design is the entrance to the city the Propylaea. The Propylaea
was built of Pentelic marble, with some details of black Eleusian stone
(Mnesicles). The propylae consists of a central building with two sixcolumned Doric porticoes east and west and two Ionic colonnades in the
interior, framed at the north and south by two wings with porches in the
Doric order. The city is a compound of different buildings, each one build for
a different purpose, a different god and dedicated to a different person
(Acropolis). When the war of Peloponnesian out broke meant that the work
on the surfaces of the monument would never be completed.
