THE VILLAGE LAMP POST

May 2016

A Word from the Home Owners Association (HOA)

May 10th 2016
A reminder from the Village President: The Village Board of Directors
has been examining Amending Bylaw 11.5 by the membership in regards to
raising the ceiling limit that the Association charges for monthly assessments.
The Board has concluded that amending Bylaw 11.5 by the membership
to a ceiling limit from $150 dollars to $200 dollars per month to meet future
annual budget increases.
Note: the $150 to $200 increase will not happen in one year. It is the
Boards plan to increase monthly assessments annually as needed.
Additionally, our next Board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May
10, 2016 at 6:00 pm. This is a Special Membership Meeting to vote on
Bylaw Amendment 11.5. All HOA members are urged to attend.

If you cannot attend, please give your voting proxy to a neighbor or

friend to drop off at the club house.
Michael Purta, Village President
The Board urges you, our friends and neighbors, to vote on May 10. We

need a minimum of 67% of eligible homeowners to cast ballots. This can be

done either by coming in person to the meeting at 6:00 p.m. or by using a
proxy form. Your cooperation in making our voting process a success is
greatly appreciated!

It has been a lovely Spring and here we are, May 1st, the
midpoint of Spring, already heading towards summer. Some
refer to it as Mayday.
The trees, bushes and flowers dressed in all their finest, making it
known by showing off their magnificent aray of beautyful colors, yellow,
pink, red, white and even some purple and blue blossoms.
We have also been blessed with the loving touch of the heavenly
showers to renew the earth.
In the midst of this beautiful spring we welcome all those who are
returning from there winter homes to enjoy their summer with us.
With summer on its way we are beginning to make plans for our
summer events.
The Village Yearly Yard Sale is on for the 18th of June and now is
the time to start cleaning out the old and make room for the new.
Plan to be ready and have some fun in the sun.
Here's a thought to think
Living on earth is expensive
but it does include a free trip around

the sun every year.

Thinking about hiking?

HIKE the Pulaski Tunnel Trail.
The Pulaski Tunnel Trail in Wallace Idaho is a fascinating hike with a
great deal of history wound into its
curves and beautiful, thickly forested
scenery, that runs alongside the West
Fork Placer Creek.
In the summer of 1910, drought, sparks from trains, and lightning
touched off wildfires in the West that ultimately scored 3 million acres of
forest.
Smoke darken skies as far away as Boston. Most of the devastation
occurred in 2 terrifying August days that became known as the "The Big
Burn" or "The Big Blow-up", when gale force winds whipped small fires into
violent infernos.

One observer said it felt as if the world come to an end.

"Smoke bellowed up as dense as volcanic glass, the fires convection
sucked in air from all sides, snapping off mature larch and white pine like

matchsticks, spotting whirlwinds like miniature tornadoes, flinging sparks

like a sandstorm." Stephen J. Pyne
Ed Pulaski
Ed Pulaski's heroic rescue, at the conflagration's height,
Forest Ranger Ed Pulaski gathered over 40 men, and- with
smoke turning day to night - raced down a draw, guiding his
men and took shelter in a mine tunnel. Pulaski's heroic save
all but 6 of his crew.
Know before You Go: Allow 2 to 4 hours for the 4 mile round-trip to
the Pulaski tunnel overlook. The trails for 725 feet are paved and accessible.
The trail then gains 800 feet in elevation to the Outlook. Several benches line
the trail, but drinking water is not available.

Make sure to wear a good pair of hiking

boots, bring a hiking staff, a camera (for the
memories you will want to treasure), plenty of
water and maybe some protein bars for snacks.
Take I 90 heading towards Missoula Montana. Don't worry you won't
have to drive that far. ;) And get off at Wallace Idaho.
The trail begins at a well-marked trailhead about a one mile south of
Wallace, on Forest Service Road 456.
Coeur d'Alene Lake
Coeur d'Alene is home to one of the most breathtakingly
beautiful lakes in the Northwest that is easily accessible.

As the Coeur d'Alene Lake flows out into the Spokane River, it invites
you to enjoy the beautiful, sand and pebble strewn beaches with its clear crisp
water lapping at the shoreline.
A wonderful place for a long, leisurely walk, a picnic, a swim, fishing,
sightseeing lake cruises or in the high summer, even rent a kayak.
Or even a big fancy boat at the Boardwalk Marina : Address: 115 S 2nd
St, Coeur d'Alene, ID 83814 phone: 208 765 4000.
There is wildlife such as these Canada geese and their 11 babies
swimming along the shoreline.

There are also artifacts dating back to the time when Coeur d'Alene had
a huge lumber industry and barges transported large ringlets of floating logs
to sawmills, like this antique steel toggle clasp that way several pounds.

If you're coming from Apple Way Road, go south on Northwest

Boulevard and hang a right at River Avenue then go past the North Idaho
Community College, straight onto the beach.
