Comparing Sources from 9/11
After the catastrophic events of 9/11, the world mainly America was never the
same again. Many were killed in the attacks, and those who survived never forgot what happened
on that fateful day. Within two days after the disaster, many Americans were rising up in outrage,
condemning the entire Muslim population for what their extremist terrorists had done. Those
who were more driven to acts of violence vandalized mosques and attacked Muslims in the
streets. Many of the views of the American population were expressed in the media, and
professionals took up the pen and began to try to empathize with the people. But these
professionals had differing sets of ideas. Two in particular, Leonard M. Pitts, a columnist, and
George W. Bush, the President of the United States, made important remarks that were different
in many ways, but are similar in ways as well. The main remarks Pitts and Bush made were
about maintaining American peace, grieving and honoring the memories of those who were lost,
and retaliating against the terrorists.
