Bernard Cache is one of

those pioneer architects of
non-standard
architecture, being also the
one who introduced the
term. As a student of Giles
Deleuze, he translated his
philosophical discourse
into architectural discourse.
His recent inquiry can be summed up, in
his own words, to the question and
investigation of reestablishing a link
between antiquity and the
contemporary world.

He is a contemporary homo universalis

of the renaissance with studies covering
a broad epistemological spectrum. They
begin with mathematics (Mathmatiques
Suprieures Ecole Ste Genevive, 1976)
and also include economics (Ecole
Suprieure des Sciences Economiques et
Commerciales, 1985) and philosophy
(Diploma of Institut Polytechnique de
Philosophie de Paris under the supervision
of Deleuze, 1983). Architecture is of
course the centrepoint of his studies in
core level (Ecole Polytechnique Fdrale
de Lausanne, 1976-1983) and also in
doctoral level (PhD with Vitruvius De
Architectura as a subject, 2009).

His contribution to architectural theory

focuses on the interdisciplinary
exploration of geometry based on
examples from art history (Albrecht
Drer) and architecture (Vitruvius). By
going through ancient Greek
philosophical thought, he transforms
Euclidean geometry to topology.

His contribution to architectural

practice includes the experimental
exploration and design of digital
software and procedures for the NonStandard production of architectural
components. After his 10 year long
research in imaging and
communications technology, Cache
together with Patrick Beauce founded
Objectile, a Digital Architecture
Laboratory for the design of software
such as TopSolid CAD/CAM. Cache
has also founded the Digital
Production Workshop at the Escuela
Superior dArqitetura in Barcelona.
Many of Objectiles projects have
been published and exhibited
worldwide.
