UNIT: Where is it?
LESSON: There is and There are. Prepositions of place
TIME: 50 min.

LESSON AIMS:

to distinguish between There is and There are and provide further practice;
to use appropriate vocabulary when locating things and/or people in space ;
revise prepositions in, on, under, between, near, etc.
to encourage the students to listen for details;
to keep the students interested in the subject.

OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

practise vocabulary related to the topic in sentences of their own;


distinguish between there is and there are;
employ correctly the revised grammar topic.

SKILLS: reading, listening, speaking, writing.


MATERIALS: textbook, flashcards, cd player, cd, stuffed animals, worksheets.
CLASSROOM INTERACTIONS: Whole class, Individual work, Pair work, Group work.

STAGES:

Activity 1: Warm-up (10 min.)


The teacher checks up homework and makes error corrections, if necessary. She gets the
students into the topic by inviting them to listen to an exercise from the textbook. The teacher then
asks questions about what they heard: Q: Where is the camel? A: Its in the desert. This way, she
introduces on the farm; in the river, etc.
Activity 2: Presentation (10 min.)
The teacher places on the blackboard four different habitats where animals live: e.g.: the
forest, the desert, the farm and the river. Then, she offers each student a picture.(different animals).
Every student comes to the blackboard and places the animal where it belongs. The students also have
to speak: I am a duck and I live on the farm.
Activity 3: Practice (15 min.)
For the next activity, the teacher puts some stuffed animals on the teachers desk and on the
chair. In order to revise prepositions, the students will have to say where the animals are.
Activity 4: Production (5 min.)
The teacher gives the students a worksheet.
Activity 5: Follow-up (10 min.)

HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT: Write 10 sentences about 10 objects located in your room using
There is/There are and the propositions of place discussed.
